my new Jon C Rudall

Jon C was nice enough to come down to Portland yesterday and hand deliver my new blackwood Rudall. I had a great time hanging out with him and playing his nice collection of antique flutes that he brought along.

My new flute is great. Its nice got a nice big honking tone and feels very substantial and sturdy in my hands. Its not overly heavy, but its weighty enough to feel solid. I think i am going to have to fine tune my embochure a bit to get the most out of it, but that will come with time. Its got a great big sound and i imagine it will only get better.

Thanks Jon for a great instrument and for driving down to deliver it to me. I had a nice time meeting you and playing flutes.

what kind of Rudall? Pictures?

I think there is one listed in the pre-owned section of www.irishflute store.com with a picture.

Yeah, hate to get technical, but it sounds like it’s one of those “Real Man Rudalls”, you know, those “Big Honkin’ Rudalls” that Jon makes for Big Bad Guys and Rough Maws.

Aw, heck. I’ve got one of these in Delrin and I’m only a Medium Bad Guy.

The flute’s a lot of fun to play, though. And it CAN honk if I want it to . . . or play quiet and sweet. A lot better flute than I am a player, that’s for sure. :smiling_imp:

It did take me a while to adjust my embouchure - quite a bit different from my Burns Folk Flute - but it’s a very easy flute to play, even with my low level of experience.

Have fun with yours, anton. And you only have to be a Big Bad Guy if you feel like it.

OK, Dana, I stand corrected, Big Bad Guys, and Exceptional Medium Bad Guys and Rough Maws!

Its just his standard Rudall and Rose, from what i understand. There is a picture of it a few threads down, Jon is holding it at the Olympia celtic festival. I will try to get some pictures taken soon, cant seem to find my digital camera.
