My Hoover Whitecap Arrived!

Received one of the new Hoover whitecaps yesterday. It is a lovely, handmade whistle with a highly polished brass tube and an off white head. Check out this thread for Avanutria’s photo of one. http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?topic=6593&forum=1

The Whitecap is heavier and slightly longer than a traditional D brass whistle. The tube walls feel slightly thicker. The tone is very warm, rich and full, quite unlike the mass-produced plastic headed, brass whistles I’ve been playing. The Whitecap is very responsive and sweet, with excellent intonation. For the heck of it, I tried it above the second octave and this whistle will play 3 full octaves! I did not check the third octave against my electronic chromatic tuner, as it was painfully loud!

Mack Hoover is a master craftsman. The Whitecap looks and feels like a custom made, one of a kind, whistle. I feel like this one was specially made for me. This is a sweet, but not quiet whistle. It is louder than said mass-produced whistles and possesses MUCH better tone. I plan on replacing all my whistles with Hoovers.

I recently sent Mack some aluminum tubing, suitable for whistles. With it, I sent a prototype tube for a soprano E that I made. Mack sent a picture of it with one of his Whitecap heads and he gave permission to share it.

It shows a close-up of the Whitecap head.

Thank you, Saint Mack.

Gary

They are the sweetest-sounding whistle I’ve ever played.
