We get these guys twice a year here in SLC, every LDS General Conference. They come from thousands of miles around, even some from other continents, to fight the “mormon menace.”
Anywhoo, Congrats, I thought you might find this funny; a buddy of mine sent this to me.
(mods, hoping this isn’t too over-the-top)
Yea, there’s one of those on the UGA campus too. He’s the “Tate Preacher” because he’s always out at the Tate Center plaza railing against the sins of the world. He has that same sign too. I guess it’s popular among that crowd.
Well, if you take the Bible seriously, God will in fact judge everyone anyway.
Really, what do they think they’re going accomplish? Nobody ever decided to not be a Buddhist (or whatever else they are) anymore just because somebody said “you’re going to hell for that stupid hippie crap” which is meaningless to someone who doesn’t even believe hell exists in the first place.
What a waste of time and breath. Go home and read your Bible honey, and quit worrying about what everyone else is doing.
You know, that guy did mention he’d been to Salt Lake City and had “heard what the Mormons had to say.” That was when he was trying to make us think he knew that the hell he was talking about. What he didn’t realize, I guess, is he’s an idiot. I mean, at one point, someone told him that he was being a hypocrite because he was judging everyone, so he replies with something like, “You say I’m judging people here, but just by saying that, you’re judging me!” My thought was, well, keep on judging then, Mr. Street Preacher.
Not all judgement is bad. For example, when I look out the window to see snow, I reasonably judge that it’s cold enough for my heavy coat. When I see a person outside on that same day without any clothes running around screaming, I judge that there’s something wrong with that person.
Judgement in and of itself is not what God condemns. It’s judgement which is harmful (“Burn, fag!” type of proclamations) and serves no real purpose except to harm the other person. God judges (and forgives) over and over in the history of Israel and in the New Testament and if you believe that humans are supposed to be like God, that necessarily involves judgements of many sorts. But there is a difference. And it’s not even that subtle of a difference, but so many people don’t understand it. All those of us who believe can do is pray for them, and in turn try not to pass the same kind of harmful judgements onto them, it seems.
Seriously, telling Muslims that God will judge them is like telling them water is wet… the likely response is “yes, and…?”
Of course, there are Buddhist sects which believe in multiple hells, so it would be kind of nice if the preachers specified just which hell they would be destined for.
This is a totally offensive thread that should go in the rubber room. The lack of a rubber room does not mean that its acceptable to drag this sort of garbage into the pub.
