My Burke Al-Pro D (long and rambly)

Far as I know, it’s the standard al-pro D. It’s aluminum, of course (the “Al” part of Al-pro). The bore doesn’t appear any narrower or wider than ‘standard’ whistles. When I ordered it from Song of the Sea, it was marked as “DAS” so I’m assuming it’s the “Aluminum ProSession” listed in Mike’s price list.

I generally don’t like brass, solely because I don’t like the way it tarnishes. Some folks like the tarnish patina, but I’m not one of those folks.

Dang!! Sorry about that! I truly try to answer all e-mails instantaneously, but sometimes AOL mail doesn’t seem to send what I think it is sending. Please, ANYONE who asks me for info and does not receive it right away ask me again!
That said, I think you’ll be happy with any of Mike’s whistles. If you’re not interested in another whistle right at the moment, I can’t think of a guy I’d rather “lose out” to ( except maybe Glenn Schultz)

Paul,

I wasn’t tryin to bust yer chops  I’ve missed emails myself (and I tend to get a fair number of 'em asking questions about my website). I’m just not much of a waiter..If I have two choices, and one of them doesn’t involve waiting, I’ll take the instant-gratification route.

That said, now that my immediate whistle craving has been sated, is there currently a wait for your whistles? Christmas is still coming up after all

Greg

I love the sound of brass but I am too lazy to polish it all the time so I forced myself to like the patina. Actually the laughing whistle’s patina looks good to me, but my hoovers could use a shining. I don’t know why they tarinshed in different ways. The laughing is like a burnished tan/yellow, with slight lightening on the fingerholes. The hoovers are bright on the fingerholes but have sort of darker rings around the bright areas, and are generally a darker color overall.

Looks kinda nifty but I haven’t figured out where I put my brass polish when I moved. Somewhere in my apartment/car there is a very smelly plastic bag with a can of Nevr-Dull

But back in June, DRC posted some probs he had with his al-pro. Points were: Weak and flat high D and very difficult to hit B. Doesn’t sound like any of the Burke’s I’ve played (including my own), so maybe he just got a bum steer.

I’m positive he got a bum whistle.
He tinkered arround with mine and changed his opinion about the al-pro’s (he eventually bought mine).

Yes, but not hopefully not too much of a wait. Just sent my last batch out on Monday although one or 2 of those may come back to me by a prior arrangement, in which case they will be available.
Got another 6 well in the works, and these should be ready in a month or so. E-mail me off the board if anyone is interested.

Other than that, the composite felt fragile for some reason, though I know it’s not nearly as fragile as it felt.

The composites are really lightweight, and even my low D feels fragile, but I can attest to the fact that the thing is rock-solid. It has been dropped, sat on, stepped on, and set upon by a pack of wild hounds, and it is still in tip-top condition. Also, it now has this neat golden shimmer that I don’t remember it having before.

All of this is true, except for the hounds thing.
