This is pretty hard to explain. Let’s see. A person who
rejoices in the moniker “Kutiman” scours Youtube for
videos containing music, then uses video editing to
splice them together, creating some pretty amazing
music. His site currently contains 7 such videos, and
while a video is playing, you can click on “Credits” to
see an overlay of all the Youtube clips used in that
video, which you can then click on if you wish to see
them in their virgin form. It’s quite an undertaking.
A new twist on the remix; the resultant video can
be as fascinating as the sound.
Plus you get a pretty interesting cross section of
some stuff on Youtube that you may never have
found otherwise.
yeah I have to admit this is the most original thing Ive seen in a while…read about it in the paper over the weekend, also couldnt imagine how it would work as a finished product, but on 1st inspection its very well done.
Kudos, Kutiman.
now how to get my own ugly mug in the mix…
Rumor had it that Frank Zappa and the Mothers’ Lumpy Gravy was made that way. That they had a contract for a certain number of records over a certain time and the company was concerned that they wouldn’t fulfill it, so they strung together a bunch of stuff from studio sessions and made a record of it. That’s been thoroughly debunked. In a way, the record sounded exactly like that, but it’s also a cohesive piece of (well, not exactly music, but something).
