mouthblown uilleann chanter

Is there a pipe maker who makes anything that you can mouth blow that sounds decent. I got a whistle players hornpipe recently but I think I’m allergic to aluminium so its going on ebay from today. Thanks for any help. Cheers!

Sorry but “mouthblown Uilleann” is an oxymoron. Reeds won’t tolerate the wetness from your breath. Then there is the whole sound that arrives from being able to stop the chanter, and the “Hard D”. As far as your aluminum problem, alot of whistles are brass and cost just a few dollars, or think about a flute.

You’ll need to get yourself one of these:

It’s a classical oboe. It’s mouthblown, uses a double reed like the uilleann pipes chanter, costs about the same as a set of pipes ( ! ) and oboe players obsess even more about reeds than uilleann pipers. In fact, the turnings on the above oboe have a resemblance to Seth Gallagher’s work. Is he diversifying?

I was curious, what would you use it for? Learning, creating a special sound? Give us an idea about your goal.

Mouth blown - have you listened to any of the French bagpipes eg Cornemuse du Centre / Bechonnet - these can have a tone not too dissimilar to the Uilleann Pipes

Try a search on U-Tube for examples

Mouth blown UP’s do not exist inspite of what you might see on Ebay :sniffle:
