Mountain dulcimer case/gig bag recs?

My son is planning to make off with the mountain dulcimer that’s been sitting too long unused in our house. Any suggestions for good quality cases or gig bags out there? Thanks.

My first suggestion is to head for everythingdulcimer.com and ask around there. They are the Chiff and Fipple of the mountain dulcimer world. Great folks and super knowledgable.

What are the dimensions of the dulcimer? You’ll need to know the length, thickness (total from back to top of strings) and the width of the widest part.

Here’s a nice selection to get you started:

as long as you don’t need a hard case, you cannot go wrong with one of Lee’s. We own three of her double cases.

If you need a hard case, a double scope rifle case (as long as it’s 4 inches deep) with the foam pulled out and new 1 inch foam put in works well. We’ve flown with these on numerous occasions.

Thanks very much.

Any suggestions for instructional material for a beginner who would probably get along better with tab or tab/notation combo than with just notation (and who is really interested in learning tunes by ear)? I see that homespun has Lorraine Hammonds cd/book set on sale.

And successful. Order sent, Missy. Thanks.
