Minus one

Hi there,

I was just wondering if any ‘irish flute minus one’ albums existed - you know with guitar accompaniment or something like that you could play along to? I think something like that would be great fun (especially for beginners - like myself ).

Do you know if they exist? If not - maybe there’s a guitar player on the board with nothing better to do, that could make a small fortune here!?

Best wishes,
Brian

Hi Brian, I use Finale 2002 soft wear for that and many other purposes. Find a midi file that you like and downlaod it and put it in the Finale (.MUS) format. It comes up as sheet music. If you play the music, a pointer points to the notes being played. You adjust fast or slow. So if there is a solo flute included as part of the midi file, you can play the notes as they ae pointed to. This program is particularly useful to send music from on person to another. I do not know why none of the other tred. flute players on this forum use the program. It does cost a couple hundred dollors, though.

Just take your favorite recordings of Irish tunes…and play along.

If tuning to the recording is a problem, use Audacity (or an equivalent program) to alter the pitch of the recording as needed. You can also alter the tempo as well if you need to do that.

I’d like to recomend a series of CD’s by Dan Compton, Dan teaches a session class in Portland, Or. He plays the fiddle and guitar, and has produce a series of 13 CDs where he plays the tune at speed on both the fiddle and guitar, and then a slow version, fiddle only. Each CDs has 8 to 9 sets of tunes. The quality of the sound is excellent. You can find his list of CDs on his website. www.glencottagemusic.com
