Milwaukee Irish Fest

I’ll be heading out later in the week for the Milwaukee Irish Fest. I’ll be there Saturday and most of Sunday. Anyone interested in getting together Sunday morning?

jim d

I’ll probably be there most of the day saturday, but I’ll just be driving up for the day. there’s a few groups I want to see and no doubt I will end up with several new cds as well

I won’t be getting there until Sunday afternoon sometime this year. My cousin’s baby is having his first birthday party on Saturday. Why’d it have to be this weekend???

I’ll be there as usual, probably all four days, though I do tend to get too tired to stay all day and night Sunday.

Jim, Sunday Morning is always a great time during and after the Mass. I’m also game to try something later (4-4:30) Saturday if anyone is interested. Lot’s of folks from the boards are there but many are too shy or something.

Lots of great old acts and plenty of new ones this year. I hope to spend a lot of time in the smaller venue’s. Tommy will be seriously missed by the senior Milwaukee crowd.

Somebody name the time and place.

Mike

Hey Duffy,

Sure hope we can catch up with each other this year. I’ve got some more O’Riordans since then as well as a Silkstone Narrow Bore, and one of those Murgacz (I think that’s how it’s spelled) that was talked about very, very briefly. I’ll have an Overton F for sale at a good price. It’s kind of beat up but I can play it.

I’ll be seeing Barry Dodd right off the bat on Saturday and then I want to catch the Dave Rowe Trio at the Pabst stage at 3:15. 4:30 under the trees straight away as you come in the South entrance might be a place to meet. Do you know where I’m talking about? There’s a retaining wall around the trees that offer a place to sit down.

I’ll be wearing my Chiff and Fipple cap.

what do you think?

Everyone invited. I’ve got some Abell’s that others can play as well a Jon C Rudall delrin flute. Actually it’s a D flute made by Jon C.

let me know.

jim d

yup, i’ll be there for sure. my band, athas, is in full force again, playing four times at the fest. also, we’re hosting a session at the lakefront brewery pub area from 6pm to 8pm on saturday evening–anyone and everyone is invited. might be a good place for a C&F meet?

i met Tintin from the boards today at the irish fest summer school, and we just finished up playing in a mighty session tonight at Corinni’s, the best Italian restaurant to ever hold an irish session .

and Jim, you always manage to have something for sale that entices me–is that overton F tuneable? damn temptation,

Jeff

Hey Jeff,

Who’s in your band these days? Is it the same three that were playing together when I first saw you on the Castle Garden stage two or three years ago? Do you a cd out yet. You are definetly on my to see list. Hey everybody, if you haven’t seen Athas, you really ought to have a listen. There’s a reason that they keep getting invited back to play at Irish Fest.

I’ll stop by the session but doubt that I’ll play. I’ve never played in a session so will probably just observe.

Nope the F isn’t tunable. I’ll bring it by for you to look at. At $105, what I’ve got in it, it’s a pretty good deal.

see you then

jim

meeting at 4:30 sounds good. I’ll be there if I can make it. I’d love to come to the session, but Liz Carroll and John Doyle are playing at 6:45 if I remember correctly, so I think I’ll be heading that direction instead…

cheers,
Sara

Jim: 4:30 by the South entrance trees sounds good. Third day into the Fest - who knows what I’ll be wearing - my C&F T-shirt if I can find it. I’ll be in the same area Sunday Morning. Canned goods are an excellent price of entry!

Jeff: I’ll probably drop by the session too at least to listen. Maybe I’ll be able to catch you up with you sometime for a brief word. I’ve been trying to make the short trip north to catch a local session but keep getting overrun by family events.

Mike

NPR’s (I believe thats the station) radio station featured a good band on the show yesterday evening. I caught the last 10 min of the band playing. They will be at the Milwaukee fest. However, since I did not get the name clearly can anyone confirm the the bands name and web site? It was Something like the “Dave Munally Band”. VERY good flute player!

Thanks!

That’s the David Munnelly Band. Haven’t heard them yet but I plan to at Milwaukee Irish fest. The band has a web site at Davidmunnelly.com and the schedual for this week-end can be found at Irishfest.com.

I officially found at least one friend to drag along to Irish Fest, so I will definitely be there and will try to meet up with others at 4:30. It’ll be great to meet some of you! I don’t have a C&F shirt or hat or anything cool like that, but I’ll look for people that are wearing them

cheers,
Sara

Thank you Duffy!

It’s pure drop stuff and really tight playing!

You’ll have no trouble finding us. Jim & I are a couple of extreemly handsom, buffed, long haired fellows who get carded every time we try to order an iced-tea. Jim usually has a knapsack filled to overflowing with flutes, whistles, and other mysterious pseudo musical instruments. We’re both from Iowa but I have to apply for permission to re-enter the state under responsible escort.

Look for whistles on the table and folks trying them out.

hahaha. thanks for the excellent descriptions  hopefully I’ll manage to find you.

Duffy,

Since I saw you last, I’ve decided to change my looks and had a make over to have me appear to be middle aged with a slight paunch and some gray hairs. It works wonders to NOT be recognized as the fellow you so accurately described. You ought to try it yourself…it really makes people underestimate you and look at you for who you really are rather than just your body. You probably won’t recognize me what with the makeover and another year older and all.

Sunday morning we won’t be able to meet under the trees during Mass due to where they have the barriers but we’ll find each other fifty or sixty yards from there.

I haven’t posted for a while due to life throwing curves at me…also have not been playing much either :frowning: but, I listen. I am married to a disabled man, who, last year, suffered a very serious set back and is paralyzed and bed ridden. Needless to say, with a full time job, and one at night, caring for him, I’m not doing much of anything else!! :frowning: But…we have found a nurse that will be able to stay overnight on Friday and I am planning on coming down to Irish Fest on Friday evening, if anyone was planning to go, I would love to meet with you.

I have been lurking for awhile, when time permits. Wish I could come on Sunday…I know it would be a riot to meet all of you guys! (Even in your costumes!)

Hey..does anyone know what happened to Jessie Driscoll??? I have been missing her posts…and don’t know what happened to her.

Hope everyone has a wonderful time at Irish Fest. I haven’t been since I moved up north 8 years ago…and I miss it dearly. There has always been one thing or another stopping us with my hubby’s illnesses. I am going to have a whopping good time…for sure!!! Although my sisters will probably kill me, I plan on bringing a couple of whistles with me…maybe my Jerry Freeman Generation and my handpainted shamrock Hoover low D. I’m very rusty..so I will probably sound like a fog horn! I am planning on getting plenty of CD’s, some jewelry, seeing Cherish the Ladies on Friday night and whatever other bands I can pick up!

Friday sounds good. Check your PM’s.

Remember Friday night admission is free from 4-5
(tonight free w/school supply donation - Sunday free before 9:30AM w/conned goods donation) Saturday everybody pays.

Four days of dancing, drinking, and singing. So who died?

Hey Jim & everyone,

Sorry I’ve been MIA–the festivities here in Milwaukee have been out of control the last few days  Great sessions until the wee hours of the morning followed by good fun afterwards–can’t beat that!

Thanks for the kind words about athas, Jim. In the band are Heather Lewin-Tiarks on fiddle and viola, Amy Richter on bodhran, percussion, and whistles, and myself on guitar, flute and whistles. Our official debut CD release is this weekend at Irish Fest. To sample tracks, check out our myspace profile: http://www.myspace.com/athas. We’re really excited about the album, and after long months of work on it, are very happy about how it turned out  Plus, I ended up playing more whistle than I normally do live, so there’s some incentive for the Chiffers out there

The band’s set dance party release is tonight at the Lakefront Dance Pavilion at 6:00pm. And our CD release concert is Sunday night at 6:30pm at the Village Pub. I hope to see some of my cyber friends out there  You can also check out our noon show on Saturday at the Castle Garden stage, followed by another set dance at 2:45pm.

I definitely want to check out that F, Jim. And I hope to see some others around. I’ll try to swing by on Saturday after our dance gig, but it looks like we’ll be playing up to 4:30 or so. We’ll see.

It was a very rainy Saturday but the Fest was excellent. The Snake Chaser Stout was the best and the place where you got it had a bunch of musicians having a great time. That was the hi-light for me. I love it when music is made right in front of you. There were some GREAT stage bands as well. I’ll be there every year for at least one day. A side note, the Art museum had a great show on Camille Pisarro
