The Chiff & Fipple Milliposters Foundation would like to welcome our thirty-fifth member, PhilO. PhilO has been a member of the Chiff & Fipple organization for a good long time, and we cordially welcome him to join us in the Frequent Posters’ Lounge.
ErikT was supposed to deliver the key, however, he is presently traveling, and could not do the honors, so Jerry Freeman and Peter Laban have been asked to present the key, in his stead… uh… well… I was supposed to have asked them.
Congratulations, Phil! Be sure to bring the whole collection to the F.P. Lounge. I’m trying out Copelands and would like to sample yours. I’m usually in the jacuzzi.
P.S. - we knew this was inevitable when you became a member of the Busking Scofflaws. Now we just have to work on Tom D. to get his post count up. We could use a good chef at the F.P.L.
Hey Walden, shouldn’t that be KiloPhilO and the Kilo posters club?..
There are exceptions, but in most cases “mille” is used for thousandths (milliliter, milligram, millimeter, milliamp, etc) and kilo for thousands (kilogram, kilometer, kilohm, kiliwatt, etc) – unless of course you’re playing the game Mille Bournes.
That’s why we had Y2K a few years ago instead of Y2M
John, who posted this primarily to inch a little closer to that worthy goal, whatever you may choose to call it…
You are correct in your basic assumption. In the measurements I do I frequently refer to 0.001 inch as “One Thou” or “A Thou” so although you are correct it could be warped just enough to apply.
