Regards
Jim
www.mikiesmyth.com is the URI, but DNS lookup is failing. However, according to the WHOIS database, the domain name is still registered to the same person who owned it in 2003.
Could be a temporary technical problem, hard to say.
If it’s his CD your’re after they have it at NPU:

Here is his email if you need it. Hope he doesn’t mind my forwarding it.
Also a good way to order his brilliant CD “The Wild Keys” ![]()
seems to be working now ![]()
I have been listening to Mikie quite a bit of late (on radio…thanks uilleannobsession.com!). Leaving his reg playing aside for the moment, I am curious about his chanter technique. Specifically, it seems like his playing is characterised by lots of use of shakes. Is that what I’m hearing? The very fast trilling sounds is what I’m talking about.
t
He “bounces” the fingers quite a bit giving a buzz sort of efect… Potts, Hannan, Browne sort of thing? When returning the ingers to the chanter let them bounce a bit - being the explanation of the technique ![]()
Mikie has crazy control on the instrument and puts in a tonn of stuff most of us will never hear.
Paddy D’.
He took the ennis trill concept and clarified it smoothing it into a more subtle and squared movement, sounds like to me. One of his forms of vibrato is very interesting. very light, like a shiver. Sounds very fast and barely touching the tone hole, so its very subtle.
But the trills are marvelous. Isnt it interesting how even when he plays -way- stacatto passages theres still a very legatto flow to it?
non-legatto… hmm. Naa.
