Saturday night I went to see
Mike & Mary Rafferty. Mike is a flute and uillean pipe player from Galway. Mike has just turned 76 and his daughter Mary who has just left Cherish the Ladies after 3 years. They were accompanied by Donal Clancy who has recently become engaged to Mary.
Mike was a great flute player and It gives me hope that there is still time for me to at least become proficient.
Mary Rafferty has left Cherish the Ladies? That’s too bad…is she planning on touring with her dad and fiance, then?
CTL seems to have had an almost complete turnover of personnel in the last year or so (except for Joannie).
Anyone know anything about it?
Mike and Mary has released several CD’s and Donal has either played on or produced them.
She has been touring with her father and Donal.
They have a web site but last Saturdays event was the last one listed on the east coat.
She seemed to indicate that three years of constant touring was enough. It is time to spend some time with loved ones. Can’t blame her there.
Hi all:
Yes, Mary was tired of touring, according to Mike. They’ve got these few gigs, but Mike said rather cryptically a couple of weeks ago that after those gigs, that was it for him. I hope he didn’t mean he wasn’t going to perform anymore! I’ll check at my lesson this weekend.
Mary’s website is http://www.raffertymusic.com.
Best to all,
Tim

Mike told the story of a dream (after eating some rich desert and falling asleep.
Has he mentioned that one to you
Hi Wizzer:
No, I haven’t heard about that dream!
Tim
It seems that in a dream Mike went to heaven and while in the presence of god, God sneezed and Mike was at a loss of what to say.
He told the same one at the Blarney Star on Friday night. He’d have a great future in standup comedy. What a sense of humour.
