All the best,

Tom

I went to the Northeast Fleadh for the first time to watch someone close compete and I was stunned by the talent I saw and heard. Young musicians displayed technical ability, respect and feel for the music and discipline beyond what I could have imagined. I decided to stay for the second day of duets/trios/and bands, and I’m so glad I did. I just couldn’t leave. To be able to hear this music, played at its very best, with total silence from the audience is something that just has to be experienced. Group and Ceili bands played at a level I didn’t know existed. The locals definitely have their act together, as will be shown with the results, but there were some real surprises. The senior River Rogues, St. Cecelia, and band from Baltimore were amazing. I’m more of a pub music fan, liking the old spontaneous session that once occured over a few drinks with an instrument or two brought along, but this massive organized competition blew me away and I’m still buzzing from it. Good job, Mid-Atlantic.
