Now regarded as one of Ireland’s great musicians, Dubliner Mick O’Brien began studying the uillean pipes at the age of nine. His first teachers, at the celebrated Pipers’ Club in Thomas Street were Leon Rowsome, Mick Touhy, and Sean Seehy. Mick’s pitch and technique have been described as “near perfect,” but the soul and liveliness is what you notice above all. Mick has always sought out rare and interesting versions of tunes; his newest CD with Caoimhin O’Raghallaigh is a brilliant illustration of this. Here in St Louis, he may possibly be accompanied by his brother, fiddler Andrew O’Brien, long a mainstay of the Irish music scene here in town.

$12.50 :astonished:

For those of you in Scotland, you can hear Mick for only £3

Now there’s good value for you!!

Only £3? Why so scotch? $12.50 is at the lower end over here, even cheap. We want our visiting musicians to stick around, or at least send them home with both pockets stuffed.

Hi Lorenzo

I didn’t say what we’re paying him…so don’t extrapulate from the ticket cost
We’ve also got an excellent clarsach player in the same concert, playing after Mick.
Value for money, eh?

Guess how much a higher priced Chieftains concert ticket costs over here. I think the record is like $45+ USD (just hear-say). I’d rather see Mick any day.

I wanted to see the Chieftains when they played nearby at outrageous prices, but we had a gig that night. I was afraid that we couldn’t pull a crowd, but our crowd was SRO and we even got a standing O and had to encore.

We charged $8 and split the door with the owners of the place. :sunglasses:

He’ll be going home with nothing in his pockets if nobody goes
Only joking, but get you fingers out and be there on saturday night!!!
Mick’s brother Andrew lives in St. Louis so it’s not like he’ll never be here again BUT, it’s been a few years (6/7) since he’s played here and it may well be that again till you see him play at such a great listening venue as Focal Point.

By the way, Focal Point is not selling tickets in advance for this night (I dont know why) so be there early to get a ticket!!!

Tommy.

If I know Mick, he’ll be traveling with the Froment B set.

Mick O Brien and Caoimhin O’Raghallaigh gave a weekend of pipe & fiddle workshops and a Saturday night concert in nearby Copenhagen recently. Beautiful Bb music until 03.20 a.m. - photos at
