Meg Whistles

I just received 30 Meg whistles from Thom Larson of the Whistle Shop (I’m going to use them in a 7th grade class I teach). They look great and after playing all 30 (what fun!) I have to conclude that these whistles are the best value on the planet. They have an excellent sound, are in tune with themselves and are easy to play in both octaves. Also, the mouthpiece is a great looking piece of plastic. I didn’t receive a lousy whistle in the whole batch! This is the second time that I’ve used The Whistle Shop and I highly recommend them. By the way, these were all black Meg whistles so I can’t speak for the other colors

Right on Gfox. I ordered one just to get the fipple to use when I try to make that bloody hand whistle. But it sounds so good that I just can`t bring myself to operate on it. Best 3 bucks I ever spent.

Tom

Yeah, I just have one Meg but it’s a really good whistle.

Megs have gotten some bad reviews here, mostly for inconsistant quality, and I can’t figure out why. I’ve purchased 39 of them so far, in both colors, and there wasn’t a dog among them.

I got mine from Elderly instruments, by the way. A better price than Thom’s, but of course nowhere near the customer service! I had to get them through the college purchasing department and they wanted to go with the lowest price.

$3 ???
Wow, maybe I should have bought two Megs in C and D instead of buying Domick and Merv (my Sweetones in C and D)… Granted, they were only $4.60 each, but w/S&H…

that’s…

pardon my math skills…

um…

$16.33. Now I wonder how much I would have saved if I’d have bought two Megs…

… oooh. My brain hurts. lol. Math was never my strong subject.

Wow, you are lucky people.

Megs still are not as good as Sweetones.

I got a Meg in C in exchange for giving a whistle lesson to an eccentric instrument shop owner (he wanted to give me a $200 flute, but I thought that was just a little too much for one lesson). I think it’s a fine little whistle indeed. I have to say, I’m still a Clarke Original kind of guy myself…
Best,
Chris

I’m sure you’ve seen as I have how much variance there can be from whistle to whistle, especially in the inexpensive whistles.

This leads me to question how much meaning a statement like “brand x is better than brand y” can really have.

/Acually, Thom gave me a great price on my institutional order (30). It’s hard to imagine getting a better deal on whistles than The Whistle Shop.
