Your mysterious “some people” straw man argument can be a successful rhetorical technique, but it is in fact a misleading fallacy, because my point has not been refuted. In fact youu continue to make my point by saying that you are invested in the community because you have a high post count and therefore are entitled.

If you take the comments directed at you and your posts on this thread as a “personal attack,” maybe you should lock yourself in a closet and avoid all human contact. You’re clearly too frail for C & F.

You know, I don’t spend much time on other forums, but I admit to being a little surprised at complaints about flaming on C&F, because I just don’t see much of it at all. We really do make an effort to discourage flaming, but I gather there’s just no universal agreement about what constitutes flaming. We don’t like people to be disrespectful, but we don’t mind people expressing disagreements. I really wish people would point out some examples of what they consider flaming. You seem to be seeing a lot of it I don’t see.
I kind of enjoyed the original discussion about reselling instruments. I thought some good points were raised on both (all three) sides. So it turned out there really wasn’t a Bad Guy. Great. This is a very polite forum compared to some I follow. I’ve learned a lot and ignored some as well. Remember folks, there is always that delete button if you don’t like what you read. I hope folks keep posting and just deal/ignore negitive comments. I’m very glad to have found this community.

This place (non political forums only) is Disneyland compared to a lot of places. Heck, things are worse on an Ohio State fan site I frequent. The mods are always deleting people and reprimanding. And we all cheer for the same team!!! Heaven forbid a Michigan fan should post. I feel certain that a lot of those people would not act that way in person.

I think you’re putting the finger right at the sore spot. Some of those who operate here under the veil of politeness are very good at making comments that can be easily read as highly unpleasant.
In fact I have seen several posters to this thread actively using this tactic in the past (and present at that). Of course Cranberry’s dog’s ‘mean spirited’ post is a prime example of this practice.
Part of the practice is often that not the opinion found offensive is rebutted but the person who made the comment is attacked personally instead. Barbs and digs galore in other words and in general barely hidden beneath the civil surface.
All this gives C&F communications an unpleasant undertone and poisons the atmosphere in a creeping manner that does indeed go a long way towards making other posters, especially the ones taking the brunt of this, eventually throw in the towel.
