Meaningless, meaningless - everything is meaningless

I posted this in response to a different thread

“Anybody know the origin of the phrase “for sure”. It seems to be added to the end of a sentence with increasing regularity, without so far as I can tell, actually meaning anything, for sure. In particular, it seems that mainland European Moto GP riders cannot complete a sentence without “for sure” on the end.
It rivals “at the end of the day” for meaningless phrases in popular use. Nobody seems to do, or mean, anything at the beginning of a day?”

Got any good examples of meaningless sayings or expressions in common use?

I’ll repost my reply:

When all’s said and done, it’s neither here nor there.

I’ll see what else I can come up with.

Word up.

Dude.

Dudette.

“Going on”, as in “Down the street a mile or so, there’s Chinese restaurant goin’ on…”

On the other hand, phenomenal reality being more dynamic than static…

I went to school with a very smart guy who became a very good attorney and he used to say, “the point being is is that…”

It is what it is

What it is?

Okay, fine.
For sure for sure.
She’s a Valley Girl.
She’s a Valley Girl.

I understand that Frank Zappa is very popular with Europeans.

…and of course one of the most meaningless things one can say is, “How are you?” It’s socially unacceptable to answer that question truthfully, so all the appropriate responses are meaningless, too. “Pretty good.” “Can’t complain.” “Fine, and you?”

Yes, what it is. See? I don’t get it either :stuck_out_tongue:

I hate when people use “literally” to add emphasis, even though there is no
way to take what they said figuratively or even hyperbolically. At that point,
it has no meaning more than “seriously, dude”

Like those?

Could be worse. You could be one of those guys with a cellphone stuck to the side of your head yelling, “Whuzza?”

Like when I try to think of something I come up empty-handed.

Like, really?

For sure, dudette.

[Now I think all of those words mean something actually. For sure=yes, dudette=slang term for woman]

Grim, honey, there is more to life than meaningless phrasing . . .
