Maurice Reviol wooden flute.

Anyone tried one of these? I don’t know if it’s been up on the board before but I’ve never heard of the maker Maurice Reviol, but the flute sounds really, really good in a sound clip. It goes for $549 and is made of honduran rosewood.

(I have no comercial interest whatsoever in this!)

That redwood is beautiful! Anyone play one of these?

I know that many here like “alternative” woods’ appearance.

I know my Eb blackwood is not a pretty flute! But I am knocked out by the sound!!!

Hi
my wife and I have a flute each from Maurice, both fully keyed, in Honduras rosewood, and they are fantastic. Great tone, plenty of volume but not overpowering, easy to blow, and nicely in tune. Compared to my old Alexander Liddle, this is a real breaze to play (excuse the pun), but it’s so easy, instead of lipping up and down notes all the time, I can just get on with playing.

Maurice worked for Cillian O’Briain in Dingle for a number of years, and is now in New Zealand. He’s pretty much an undiscovered gem, and I think when people cotton on to what he is producing his instruments will be on long waiting list.

regards
Andy

Also appears in some other threads with different topics as the recent discussion of Michael Coleman.

Good luck with your band Henke!

His new website is just up and running. He sent me on the link today..www.reviol.co.nz
I’m really happy with my new flute now over a month with me.. It’s a real beauty.
I reckon get in soon if you want one. His waiting times can only get longer.

His price is 800 Euros now, j.

Oops, 800 NZ, which is only $530.35.

I have yet to have the pleasure of playing one of his flutes yet, but I can vouch that Maurice is a top-notch craftsman and an extremely friendly guy. I met him when he was apprenticing with Cillian O Briain in Dingle and in addition to doing the keywork on my UP chanter from Cillian, he also did a bit of work fixing up the tuning slide and keys on my Hamilton flute…free of charge (well, for the stuff he did on the flute anyways). I’m sure his flutes are absolutely first class and I’d love to try one myself sometime.

I hope he hasn’t given up completely on making uilleann pipes, though. He was turning out some fantastic stuff in Cillian’s shop and the world could certainly use another good pipemaker or two…
