Thanks for that. Haven’t seen that picture before. Martin Reilly’s O’Connor Donn is my favorite of the old recordings. I was going to post a link because Pat Mitchell had done a whole ‘notes & narratives’ lecture on the recording on NPU’s site , but I can’t seem to find it now. I also seem to remember another piper playing it during what I think was another lecture in ‘notes & narratives’. I want to say it was Mark Redmond, but I could be wrong. Does anybody else know where this performance took place and if it’s available to view again? I guess NPU hasn’t been uploading all of their content, or has taken some down.
It’s interesting that Cathal McConnell is responsible for creating what is essentially a different tune, due to him mishearing the cylinder in it’s original condition. Pat Mitchell did a great job of cleaning that recording up. https://thesession.org/tunes/1660
Also one of my favorite pictures of any piper.

Here is a link on NPU’s Source site for the wax cylinder recording (need to be a member to listen to it). It looks like this is a rework of the original cylinder. Interesting listen!

You linked to the original, not the reworked/cleaned one.
Clean one! Sorry!

Don’t know why I couldn’t find it before. Here are the lectures:
Pat Mitchell - Martin O’Reilly’s O Conor Don Reel

Martin Dowling - The Feis Ceoil, The Pipers, and the Phonograph (with Mark Redmond playing the tune at ~47 min)

Looking at Martin’s Egans set. It seems very battered, bent, and dented and I assume it has had a hard working life. Is anyone playing it these days, or is it part of a collection? I wonder how it sounds now?. has anyone recorded with the set? Is Eadaoin Breathnach related to Brendan?

I saw this recently in An Piobaire and it caught my eye. Im interested if it is essentially the same lecture he’s given or what bits he has that will add to it. I’m uncertain, but I don’t think NPU has run a repeat in their Notes & Narratives before.
