Martin McIntyre - Donegal Pipemaker

I Called with my friend today, Donegal Pipemaker, Martin McIntyre. I videod a few tunes on his beautiful personal Bflat set in boxwood. A magnificent set to play. Not a lot of people would be familiar with Martin as a pipmaker outside Donegal and certainly outside of Ireland, as he was never a full-time maker. He learned to make pipes with Alan Gingsberg in London in the 1970s and continued on making on a casual basis on and off since, after his return to Ireland. I just wanted to share the sound of his beautiful flat pipes

Ar fheabhas Éireann…what a beautiful sound! I think Martin Mc and myself got the lead numbers for Bb from Derry’s own Finbar Mac Laughlin…I did not do much with the pitch but Martin Mc has left the rest of us with dust in our eyes. Gach sonas ort as roinnt linn a Chiaráin.

Great playing on a lovely sounding set, I know the first tune Dublin Reel and have heard the second but can’t remember the name ?

It’s a take on Tommy Reck’s version of the Woman of the house.

Another two examples of Martin’s pipes.
