James, that is really enjoyable! It’s nice to hear you taking your time with the music.

Nicely Done, James! Music like that is the reason I took up flute in the first place ~ Which of your flutes are you playing?

Thank you for the kind comments!

I had meant to post which M&E flute this was…sorry about that! It’s the 6-key flute with his “split front” embouchure modification. I think it works well for early music as well as for Irish trad.

I love playing classical–at least on occasion!–and definitely have a much stronger background in classical music and early music than I do in Irish. (This was not meant to be a HIP performance, by the way–I’ve never been a big fan of Historically Informed Performance and its overly rigid fundamentalistic interpretation of early music and how to play it.)

This was just having a little fun, playing a flute made for one genre in another and letting my M&E pretend it’s a Baroque flute for a bit.

Best wishes,

Well done, James! Inspirational! Brings to mind a recent thread on woodenflute.com regarding the “correct” instrument for the style of music being played. There was ALMOST general agreement that the player needs to enjoy the instrument no matter what genre playing in. I agree. Your M&E 6 key and the classical sure inspired me to practice, practice, practice in the music of my choice - and that’s not always Irish.

I love it when a tune comes together!
