I have an Alba Low D and find it needs too much ‘puff’. Any suggestions for other low whistles which don’t need so much puff.

Dixon low D.
Overton low D.
Question: Do you have the new design Alba Low D or the old design?
I just received one of the new design Alba Low D’s and find the air requirements to be quite reasonable. The whistle very easy to blow - there is not much back pressure, yet even the high notes are very easy to hit.
I agree with the other posters that the Dixon and Overton both take very little air, even less than the new Alba, however both will sound and play radically different from what you have now.
My suggestion would be (assuming you have the old style Alba) that you contact Stacey at Alba Aerophonics and see if she is willing to work something out with you for perhaps some sort of exchange or paid upgrade to one of her new design Low D’s, then, if that doesn’t work out, or you still aren’t happy, go ahead and buy an Overton. I’d say skip the Dixon, it’s a great starter Low D, and a good bargain, but the tuning tends to be a little iffy, for those serious about playing, and the tone isn’t the most inspiring.
Just my $.02

For what it’s worth, the Howard low
D is easy to play, breathwise,
and sounds
pretty good. Don’t know how
long you’ve been playing
your low D–if it’s newish,
you might give it some time.
