I know that the MK low d is loud. Any other ones loud enough for a (medium)session?
One of our session players uses a Burke low D. It has good volume and blends in nicely in medium to fairly large sessions. Overton would also be a good choice.
I use a Burke low D at our local sessions, and it is loud enough to hold its own.
One session had eight guys playing Irish flutes and my Burke had a similar volume and tone to the flutes. They did not drown me out in the least.
I’ve played two MK low Ds, and both were about the same volume as my Burke. The two played very differently: one had a wimpy bell note and weakish low E, the other had good strong low notes, velvety high notes, and all in all was about the best low D I’ve ever played. All notes could be “pushed” without breaking and the tone had a very interesting character.
The hallmark of the Burke is the booming bell note (bottom D). A strong bell note, to me, is crucial.
I’m answering honestly here, and not pushing the whistle I’m trying to sell, but Copelands are fairly loud. Burkes, however seem a bit louder, though the two whistles have an entirely different sound.
I have an old style Chieftain low D, and it is moderately loud - I play mike’d, but don’t have trouble hearing myself in the band.

Overton low D tunable. Colin makes a dandy.
