Looking for web site w/ hard case for low D whistle

I once stumbled across a web site that had a long, thin, rectangular hard shell case for large whistles or one-piece flutes. Unfortunately, I didn’t seem to save the link. The case was designed to hold two low d whistles and a smaller whistle. Has anyone run across this site?

Thanks.

I use a pool cue case for my low D…

Buy a blueprint case (approx $10) at any art supplies store. They are perfet for holding up to 4 Low D’s. You can wrap the whistles in a sock or have some bags made up - if you know someone that can sew.

Steve,

I’m not familiar with the site you mention, however I did get a hard case from Colin Goldie about a year or so ago that sounds very similar to the one you describe, it’s excellent.

Loren, that’s it! Thanks!

Here’s the web page if anyone else is interested.

Steve,

You’re welcome, glad I could help. I didn’t realize they’d gotten a couple of pictures up on the website, otherwise I’d have steered you there.

I must say that the photos really don’t do the case justice; These things are very handsome and extrememly well made. Not too heavy either. One thing you can’t easily tell from the pictures is that the case comes with a couple of felt padded “blocks” that can be wedged in just above or below a whistle, to keep the smaller whistles from sliding around, or two keep one whistle from touching another if you place two in the same channel.

Personally, I think these cases are by far best thing out there, and the price is quite reasonable for what you get.

Speaking of cases - I’m very impressed with the soft case Mike Burke sent with my AlPro G. Well made, very well padded, room for other whistles in their own sleeves, and only $10. Ask Mike for details, but it’s worth the extra tenner next time you order a whistle from him.
(P.S. - Great whistles too!)

I’m pretty sure Tony Dixon has one for sale on his web site. It has space for a couple of soprano whistles as well, if I remember correctly.

Both the Overton and the Dixon hard cases are too short for my Copeland low D. The Overton will fit my Howard low D, though.

Song of the Sea sells a case for low whistles or flutes. Its 26 inches long so should accomodate your low D well. They are rather nice, and will hold several whistles even in their little cloth bags

I have to say, I have received the BEST customer service from Song of the Sea! If you’ve not ordered from them before, give them a try! I have personally been very pleased.

I use a pool cue case as well, it even has a divider to help store small whistles and keep them from clanking together. ABout $20

Good Luck

Tim

I have known and worked with Edward and Anne Damm of Song of the Sea for over 10 years. I second Mary’s post, emphatically. I assist people in the Lancaster/York/Harrisburg area of PA in purchasing hammer dulcimers, whistles, and other folk instruments. Song of the Sea has always been my supplier. They do it right.
The best to all of 'ye.
Cheers.

Cool, I’ll give them a call, then, and thanks everyone.

One word of warning about Song of the Sea: They used to have a policy that wind instruments could not be returned, for health reasons.

A couple of years or so ago I bought a Burke whistle from SOS, I decided very quickly upon receiving it that the whistle was not for me. When I contacted SOS to arrange a return I was told the whistle could not be returned for a refund or exchange. It was explained to me that this rule was listed on the website and surely I must have seen it. I had not. Eventually I was able to get a refund, but I can tell you this was not done cheerfully.

Perhaps SOS has changed their policy, I certainly hope so since they are/were the only on-line retailer I know of who wouldn’t allow returns on whistles. Personally I would not buy a brand new whistle from a maker or dealer who didn’t offer a trial period.

Take a few minutes and check out

They often have suitable cases intended for band instruments, drumsticks, guitar effects cases, etc. many are priced under $30.

Here is a place for cutom-made pool cue cases. I’m sure if asked, he would adapt these to whistle cases. They’re beautiful, but expensive.

Alternative Hard Cases for Low Whistles:

Plastic Blueprint Cases: available on-line at the following:

I noticed that the basic 25inch Artbin is available for less than 10 dollars.

Billard/Pool Cue Cases:
They are generally about 28-31 inches long and have 2-4 compartments. Dealer cases have 12 or more compartments. They start for under $20 and go to about 70. Dealer soft case (12-20 compartments) go for about $60-80 and dealer hard cases for $120-150.

Places to find Cue Cases:

Pool cue cases also fit well with the most common session decor - Pubs. Yet, they don’t attract too much attention outside the pub.

Hope this helps you …

Blackhawk: Regarding the size of the low d case, I just received an email from Brigitte at the Overton web site, and she said the Copeland Low D will fit in the hard case that she sells. Perhaps we are referring to different cases?

Steve

Often eBay has some musical instrument cases that would be ideal for whistles. Like this flute case with a starting bid of $16
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=877664703
unfortunately eBay auctions can get get out of control and something we’d pay $30-40 in a local music store jumps to $60-80 PLUS the sellers $15-25 for shipping and handling.
Many of these sellers have retail outlets, so the suggestion would be to contact the store directly.
