Hard case for whistles

I was just wondering if anyone knew of anywhere to get a hard carrying case for whistles??

If not, is it something that you would be interested in having if you could find one?

I have been looking for one, and have yet to find any. But, I do have a good idea for developing one, and just wondered if I was the only one who even cared to have one.

I have found that wine boxes work exceptionally well. Those kind that open on the long side, and are made for storing a single bottle of wine. All a person has to do is line them with foam, or not. However you like it. The boxes themselves often have scenes of Europe or flowers or something equally pretty on them.

Depends on how many whistles and how nice a case you would like. A hard briefcase with a foam insert can hold a collection of high whistles and can be found cheap at garage sales or thrift stores. Some people have improvised small cases out of PVC pipe. I use a hollowed out aluminum bike pump–practically indestructible and a perfect fit for my Clarke.

For soft cases, drumstick totes, poolcue cases, do well. I use a very simple tartan cloth roll with a shoelace to secure at each end. Looks okay, and works very well, with not much extra bulk.

I have leather cases for two of my whistles, but I guess I thought that surely someone made a nice hard case - more like you would find for a band instrument, but a smaller version. I did find one just a few minutes ago, but it was over $50.00, and I think I could make something custom for much cheaper.

Considering the investment that is made in some of the higher-end whistles, I am surprised that no one is tapping into this market for hard cases to store and carry them.

Go to walmart and buy an aluminum “shotgun” case for around $34. The one I have is aluminum and came with the double-sided foam. It actually works out to be a great case and its also fire protective. In case of fire the edges seal up. The case also has locks.

A flute sized hard case but with spots for 2 or 3 whistles would be nice.

The one above might even work as-is with one single whistle and another with the head seperated from the body.

These ones are leather and way too expensive, so I would never buy them, but they give an idea of the kind of box I am talking about. I’ve seen them unlined at the dollar store and thrift stores for $1 or $2, and they’re perfect for holding whistles.

With a latch and handle added on, this could quite easily become a carrying case for multiple whistles.

Some of my favorites come from the Oregon Flute Store - check for their economical ones, called the Crow and the Raven. (Admittedly, they are better for the low whistles than high) www.oregonflutestore.com

I also have a hard case from Colin Goldie that my low D set came in, which is great. And, his multi-whistle bag is also amazing.

Aaaagh!!! Information overload!! :boggle:

If I ever need information about anything again, I am coming here first! You guys are great! Thanks for all of the great ideas - keep them coming!

Now…can you help me with my golf swing?

Sorry , Lass , not a golfer !! You will find that there are a lot of hard cases , made for pistols , that work very well for carrying and storing whistles. Check in any sports shop or catalogues , gun shops , or even the sports sections in any of the big chains. You’ll find a ton of them in all sizes and price ranges. Hope that helps.

Have a Great Day and Fun Whistling !!

Lark of Larkwood has a wooden whistle case at http://www.larkwoodworks.com/.

A felt lined beer stine works fair if you hold it upright.

Wal-Mart carries several sturdy, plastic pistol cases in their sporting goods section. They come with “egg-crate” foam in both sides, very good latches and a hole for a lock. I got a small one for $US9.

These work very well. I have a similar one with more padding and a place for music. From the same place . http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=35900

Have your son-in-law make you one!

Cheers,

Paul Busman is your son-in-law? I love it!

I had this problem and the only thing I could find which would take my low d and the other high whistles was a hard snooker/pool cue case. Everything else which was long enough was too bulky, but this fits great and also locks too with aluminium corners. It cost me £40 or approx €75 but considering what it was protecting I thought it was worth it.

Good luck!
