Looking for a teacher or playmates!

Hi! My name is Helen, I’m 22, and I live in Basingstoke (UK). I have a few tutor books for the Irish Whistle, but I would prefer to have somebody playing with me or, better yet, a human teacher.

Is there anyone in the Hampshire area or - failing that - the rest of the UK - who teaches the Irish Whistle or would be willing to join a group?

If such a person or person exist, I would be eternally greatful if you could either reply to this message or send me an email at helenadams3@hotmail.com, for my eternal gratitude.

Hi Helen, and welcome!

I’m a bit too far away to join you for playing the whistle, but I can tell you that having a good teacher at the beginning is very helpful.
I started this year, and found that understanding things like rythm, although boring sometimes, helped me a lot to improve my playing… and been able to read music sheets is nice, too

Helen,
Welcome aboard.I’ve just done a quick Google here and found a lot of information about folk clubs in the Hampshire area.
My knowledge of the area is very limited so I don’t know how near or far these places are from Basingstoke but if there is a folk club there will be somebody with a whistle. They might be able to help you out a bit.

Hope this helps.

Slan,
D.

Thanks very much for the help! I’ll check out those links - I have a car so travel isn’t that much of a problem

LOL! What’s that?

 That’s great

Hi Trawler

Why don’t you try the CCE.

The London branches appear to be the nearest ones to you, but maybe they can put you in touch with a teacher / other players closer to home.

David

Thanks - I’ll have a look at that.
