As far as I know its still going.I spoke to Kevan at the All Britain Fleadh and he is one of the organisers of it and we caught up on old times. It is/was at the Irish Centre Blacks road Hammersmith on a Thursday night at 7.30 during school term times.Maybe someone on the board can confirm…But I am pretty certain it is still going on…

Yes, the club is still very much alive and well. I think there have been some issues with website and mailboxes, but these are being resolved. Term starts again on 3rd September at the Irish Centre, Blacks Road, Hammersmith W6.
Caoimhin - if you pm me, I can give you some contact details.
The London pipers club is a great club that I hope goes on for many years .I remember when it was in the The Irish center in Camden town, it had alot of member then.
Billy Brown,Ken Lynam,John Murphy,Paul Carton and Steve Scales were great pipers and teachers.Tom Sheridan was a regular ,who was one of Leo Rowsome’s pupils and Denis Picker was there if you were a beginner who needed a bag and bellows made up .
Emmet Gill was the hot shot kid at the time and I remember Brendan Ring turning up one night and blowing the socks off everyone with his playing as nobody had even heard of him before.
So we share common past ..I too remember Denis and the boys at the Club in Camden. Many a great piper passed through those doors and I was a bit saddened when it went to Hammersmith, probably coz I lived in Camden and felt it belonged there.Mind ye I lived in Hammersmith as well when it was an Irish Ghetto just after the War.So Rory I guess we are kinda blood brothers in piping.

You can listen to some recordings of Tom Sheridan at the BBC Archives website. Reg Hall at the piano. Other pipers in the vaults there: Willie Clancy, Dan O’Dowd, Tom McCarthy, Tommy Kearney, Brian Vallelly. Also fiddle, flute, song, interviews. McCarthy talks about getting the pipes in the 50s, Leo Rowsome wasn’t in but Leon was and played them a bit - sounded great. So Tom goes off and plays them on the back of a lorry - “worst thing you ever heard in your life!”
These are for listening only - no downloads. You can capture the audio easy enough though.
