Has anyone out there seen or heard of any Lon Dubh whistles in the wild that are made of woods other than Grenadilla (African Blackwood)? I know some were made from Delrin, although I hear they are thicker and less vibrant sounding than the original thin walled Blackwood versions.
I’d be particularly interested to know if anyone has a Boxwood Lon Dubh.
I sent a message to my friend on facebook to find out exactly what it is. I wonder if I’ve remembered wrong… it seems unlikely that I would have seen something Doc hasn’t. We’ll see what she says.
About a year ago or earlier I rember that whistle & drum had some photos of several Lon Dubh whistles, some in purple heart, some in blackwood, some in boxwood(I guess).
I also rember that some forum’s member posted something about their rosewood and purple heart Lon Dubh’s !
About the Delrin Lon Dubh… well I own one and I must say that is a very nice whistle with a beautifull sweet and woody sound, quiet vibrant to me but I cannot compare it to a blackwood one because I’ve never owned one.
