Leslie Bingham R.I.P.

Sad news indeed!

I just heard that Leslie Bingham, well known and respected flute player from Ballydrain, Comber, died today.

Sad news indeed. I’m very sorry to hear this. Heard Leslie play last in Doolin. My condolences to his family and friends.

Very sad to hear this news, he was a very nice man indeed and was always encouraging to young flute players around Belfast and beyond. Spending time with Leslie in a session was always fun and may he be tooting tunes in heaven tonight.

RIP, Leslie. I used to see him frequently in Doolin when I lived there, often at the pub but just as often on the river as he was a keen fly fisherman. I remember being out on the Aille River myself, trying to cast just that little bit father than I was able and ending up with a huge snarl. As I tried to recover my line with as much decorum as possible, and thinking no one had seen me, I suddenly espied the solemn figure of Leslie Bingham silently watching me from the bridge. He was too far away for me to be sure, but I thought I saw him gently shaking his head as I rassled the line back in. Later in the day I saw him with a brace of fine-looking trout that had somehow eluded my best efforts, succumbing to his superior methods in the end.

I’m sure the trout stream in heaven has a pub on either bank.
