Brian, you’re wasting your time offering Parcour information. Whatever he’s after, information doesn’t seem to be high on the list of priorities. You want to reason with someone who thinks Pat should raise his prices so he can send grandaughters to college to be taught by risible ‘losers’, thus described simply because they engage in the very economic thinking that that makes Pat himself immoral? This isn’t about information Brian. I just hope Pat himself never sees the offensive and patronisingly ageist remarks made about him on this thread.
Wombat, I understand your points. My only hope was to hopefully shed light to one’s eyes that were so tightly shut to the reality of what he can and cannot change. Ah well. I get a cookie for effort I supppose… ![]()

It’s really funny how far away from the original question these posts have gotten! We started out with a simple “How many have bought new or used O’Riordan whistles in the last 12 months”, and have ended up in a debate about the dear man’s pricing and, unbelievably, his mortality!
I just spoke with him about three weeks ago, and he’s in great spirits and seems very happy. I have to wonder if making instruments for all of us whistle junkies isn’t what keeps him young.
I managed to get a used O’Riordan Traveller’s set a couple of months ago, thanks to Klezmusic. She took pity on me after she saw me whining on this board about not being able to order one because he’d temporarily stopped taking orders.
They’re absolutely wonderful! It’s the beautiful, full tone of a friend’s O’Riordans that made me want to take up tin whistling. Now that I have my own, my practice time has increased dramatically. Quite simply: I love the sound of the O’Riordans!
Oh…I missed the ‘used’ phrase. I got a Concert D/C set used within the past year.
At cost.
I admit the sound is very, very good, though the finger spacing is a bit tight in one spot. I love the heft of the piece…these are not flimsy lightweight pieces here. . .but I will say honestly and sincerely, they’re worth exactly what I paid for them. If Pat tripled his price, or the person selling this used tripled THEIR price, I would laugh at them and know there are suckers born every minute who will pay because more expensive is better, right?
Oh, and of course there are the investors out there. ROFL. Like the person with the rare engraved Copeland who must have thought they’d make a mint.
Sorry if I offended anyone’s taste or economics. O’Riordans in my book are quite typical well crafted, nice sounding whistles, not the Holy Grail.
Hi, thanks for the reply’s. I did step outside the boundries on my posts. It is my personal social science to break past sociological mores. It makes me stronger. It would be a mistake to think that you can intimidate me into silence.
Sus, dear, I have immeasurable respect for Pat O’Riordian.
Riseard, I am very wounded and hurt about your public reaction to my post is that is the most insensitive remark you have ever read. I recall that we both are Jungians. As you know, Carl Jung would not be inclined to flinch or cower from my remark, you shouldn’t either, I’m surprised that you did! Pat accepts that he is in his late seventies,. He has too,… you accept that you are seventy also, correct? Otherwise, what fantasy are you engaged in? At that age, you don’t screw around. Or, at least you shouldn’t.
All these professional whistle forum posters can kiss my arse, as you can tell, I call a spade, a spade. If Pat had an email i wound tip him off… If that dingo faced wombbat was standing in front of me, I would knock him on his ass and dare him to stand back up.
Yours, in truth,
