Kwela

Hi,

Maybe the question has been asked many times before and is in FAQ now, but still:

Wikipedia says</a](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinwhistle#Kwela">says</a)> that ITM and all stuff around it is not the only music genre, where tinwhistle is a native instrument. Another one is Kwela</a](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwela">Kwela</a)> - a style in afro-jazz. Yet that wikipedia article and this preview is the only stuff I could find about it.

Does anyone have smth else? Sheetmusic, abc/midi, recordings, etc? This music sounds nice, and it would be fun to play smth more than jigs-reels-polkas

Thank you in advance!

Found some sheet music HERE

— There’s a link to Chiff & Fipple on it! Maybe Chris will reply in person!

and found some sound files HERE.

I hope these help!

There have been a few good threads about Kwela in the past…search the archives and you can probably find them. Here are a few:

That’s a teriffic site, with much needed info. Good find.

You could search Youtube for Kwela videos as well. They play their whistles weird too…you’ll see.

Hi - I’m very happy that my little web site about kwela has appeared here, and I’m glad that it seems to have gone down well.

Towards the beginning of the year I was in a similar situation to breqwas, and I decided to start the kwela project shortly afterwards. I’ve done very little to promote the web site beyond asking Google to index it, and I figured that people would find it as it became more relevant with added content.

I think my main aim at the moment is to provide more music to play. To this end I’ve been trying to collect old recordings - it’s kind of expensive because of the rarity of this vinyl now :frowning: I’ll try to do something similar to Dolosin the near future.

Anyway, greetings to everyone here - now that I’m registered maybe I’ll get to contribute a bit.

Chris

Hooray! Glad you could make it, Chris!

I’ll try to do something similar to Dolos in the near future.

Wow, great! Hope to see it soon!
