Don´t know much about kwela music, but I´m always interested to learn more about whistle related music.
I´d welcome any suggestion about good kwela CD´s to buy or internet sites to visit.
Man, just open the little search thingy and type in Kwela. Not only will your thread come up, but so willl quite a few others. Lots of links, tune selections and offers to send music directly to you.
Ask Ian Turnbull, maker of the Impempe whistles. He’s on the forum under the name of Impempe. He’s from South Africa and seems to know a lot about Kwela.

Over the years there have been about a dozen previous threads. In truth, very little is currently in print and very little ever was brought out on CD. But there are about 3 or 4 CDs currently out and they are worth hearing.
Lots of anthologies of township jive include a couple of kwela tracks but, almost always, the same one or two. It’s very frustrating. Vintage blues, jazz, flamenco, fado, rembetika and so on are all comprehensively reissued. But kwela—sorry!

I have “Let’s do the Kwela” and “Gas up my hotrod stoker” both by 'The Positively Testcard". They are both great CDs IMO.
