Kwela: VERY INFECTIOUS! I want more!.....

I finally got my 2 cd’s of Positively Testcard’s Kwela music!

WOW! I’ve already listened to them twice, and will probably listen to them
several times again tomorrow!

OK, so it’s not ITM. Not even close to ITM. But it IS some of the most
jumping, happy, lively, downright infectious music I’ve ever heard!
I WANT MORE!

So here’s my query: Are there any other Kwela style cd’s available?
Google wasn’t much help, so I’m turning to your expertise…

Thanks!
Aldon (a.k.a. LimuHead)

Kwela makes me giddy.

Hi Limuhead!

Great to hear others enjoying TPC. They’re planning a third CD later in the year, btw.

I did manage to find a couple of Kwela CDs on Amazon, but only one has been delivered - Donalad Kachamba et son Ensemble. The second was delayed 4-6 weeks, twice, because it’s an import and very rare.

Do a search on Amazon for Spokes Mashiyane or Kwela, he has a couple of CDs out, but be prepared for a long wait!

I am by no means an expert in Kwela music. As a matter of fact, now that I think about it, I may not be an expert at anything :astonished: :sniffle:

Anyway, I think there are a couple of folks that you can do a search for and maybe come up with a CD or two- but again, no exper.

Try a search for Allen Kwela and also one for Donald Kachamba.

Happy searching.

All the Best, Tom

Thanks for the leads! I just got finished ordering 4 CD’s from Amazon: 3 Kwela CD’s from your recommendations, and 1 Chieftains (Down the old Plank Road). I am now $71 poorer!

Now comes the wait…

BTW, me and the band just got back from our mini-tour of Hawaii! Positively Testcard’s CDs were in the van’s CD player the whole time! They were digging it, and now want to add some Kwela style stuff to our regular sets! I’ll probably write my own tune(s), but want to get some ‘classics’ under my belt too…

Thanks again, you guys are great!

Try here,

I got 5 Kwela CD’s from South Africa and they cost less with shipping than 4 CD’s from Amazon. I got mine in less than a week, but other folks have waited longer.

look under pennywhistle

VERY COOL! I’ll check those websites out…

Thanks!

OK, I’m not British but wouldn’t that be PTC? Anyway, I checked out their website. They are very cool and kinda remind me of Carribean steel drum music with the chord patterns. Thanks for turning me on to this music!

Early Nkosi West is kwela. Probably most CDs of him are from his later saxophone jive period.

I just ordered a few CD’s from them. Should be here in a week or so. I searched under ‘pennywhistle’ and ‘kwela’. ‘pennywhistle’ turned up one CD, but ‘kwela’ turned up 5. Fortunately they tell you which ones actually have pennywhistle on them, and which only have ‘kwela’ in the title.

Thanks for the link!

I tell ya…if any of you have been thinking, gee, I’d really like to do an interesting and informative website…what the web needs a a good, comprehensive KWELA site. I don’t think it’s out there and I think it would be a fabulous contribution.

Dale

You do it, Dale.

…or if someone could who has a recording could maybe post a clip for us to hear…would probably boost the CD’s sales too

Boyd

I finally broke down and ordered the “Hot Rod Stoker” CD. It took a while to convince myself the CD was worth the cost :boggle: , but after listening to the clips on The Positively Testcard’s web site several times I decided to go for it

I agree totally!

You can got to The Positively Testcard’s website and download tune samples:

I think you need to click on the ‘Sounds’ tab.
