One for me is the corn on the cob holder.

We own them, and we use them. Honest.
Me too. You know, though…when I thought about it, I suddenly got I.D.10-t’s point: my fingers get all buttery anyway. Every time.
They have two saving graces in that if you enjoy using them, they don’t take up much room and usually won’t cost much.
The way we make the corn, we just hold onto the peeled back husk and the tip. To hot to hold, to hot to eat.
I love sweet corn grilled in the husk. That doesn’t fly for the rest of my house, though.
And I wouldn’t say “enjoy” is the word. To be honest, I actually kind of despise the little wretched things.
Corn on the cob holders are cool Nano
.We use ours all the time ..
Our unused item is a ‘clip on to the bench’ meat mincer..We’re both vegetarians and would never use it as such..
These mincers always crop up at garage sales etc. and I always liked the idea of having one, so a couple of years ago, there was a shiny beauty for sale ,still in its original box for sale at $5.00.
I bought it… and thats where it sits now…still in its original box
…
You could mince up carrots or something…I wouldn’t know why, but still.
A friend put one of these pie birds in my Christmas stocking one year, and I have actually used it a couple times fwiw. Although it sort of takes up what I would consider valuable space which would otherwise be occupied by delicious chunks of apple, so I’m not sure it’s worth its spot in the kitchen drawer of randomness.

If you are into apple pie, you should have one of these:

But make sure you can clamp it onto the counter or a table. I don’t trust suction cups.
As for the corn holders, I do not want them. I’ll just grab the cob thanks. I do have a special compartment for chopsticks though, and 4 of those ladle-style asian soup spoons.
Oh. The question was what do I NOT want. I don’t have a food processor except for one little bitty one I use for situations where it’s essential. I don’t want to learn how to cook anything I need a food processor for. I don’t have a range hood. We don’t do icky splattery greasy meaty things.
I also don’t have all the toe-kick trim installed under the cabinets. I’m going to have to think about doing that.
Okay, my irrelevant kitchen items (the list shall no doubt increase):
A blender. It was free and almost new. I used it once - I suppose to make a point of it - and haven’t used it since.
A gift of three dramatically stylish Wusthof Culinar cheese knives in their own menacing pistol-case type thing. I just don’t go there. I already have a paring knife.
A stainless steel thermos coffee carafe. Also a gift. Looks nice, but I usually drink what’s in the pot before it scorches much.
Never understood the need for a honey dipper either.

Not when you have those squeezy bears.
Keurig. I’d rather just make a small pot of coffee if I don’t want very much. No need for another appliance to take up space.
Forman grill. Thanks to not having adjustable heat, it burns the outside of the meat and leaves the inside undercooked. Seems like fish is the only thing it does a good job on.
Ahhhh, the Honey Dipper…that’s another one we use about 3 times a day …
My pet hate #164 is globs of butter and other ‘extras’ in the honey jar
..
My family bought me a honey dipper with its own bee hive shaped jar when I stuck a label that read " Is your knife or spoon clean ? " on the old honey jar …
Lemon zester.
Microwave oven.
I do have four cataplanas, which might be considered a bit excessive. One big one and one small one would do.
A pierogi press, have one never used it and can’t think of any other use for it. Can’t throw it away as it is a perfectly good pierogi press.

I confess I make frequent enough use of mine (again, a gift, a hand-me-down. I seem to get a lot of those, now that I think about it). I’ll spare you the gnarly details; suffice it to say that it’s mainly for reheating whole unprocessed foods, so I get a pass. And here’s a tip: it’s very handy for warming sake in a pinch.
More irrelevant things in my kitchen:
Absinthe spoon. The drink was okay for what it is; as to the ritual: I can’t, as they say, be arsed. Gimme a whisky and water.
Mortar and pestle. I can’t bring myself to call mine useless, but…I don’t use it.
Garlic press. I use a number of other methods that please me better and are easier to clean.
There’s this melon-baller looking thingy with an ejecter sproing. I don’t know what on Earth it is, nor how it got there.
I have never owned a microwave oven. What are you supposed to do with the things? Anyway, nasty, new-fangled devices. ![]()
You then could live with my mom.
The thing about Keurig coffee things is I don’t want one either. I’d rather just make a small pot, freshly ground. Here is where I become inconsistent though (please don’t search for other examples…they exist):
I have a Nespresso thing which is, in function, similar to a Keurig except in that it makes espresso rather than regular coffee. In the evening, I make tiny decaf espressos with vanilla soy creamer. The kids, during intervals when they live with me, (as they are all college-age or older) are more apt to make swirly things with caf coffee and frothed milk. It’s fun.
I just make coffee in a cafetiere. I never make instant coffee (although we do have a pot somewhere for those very few poeple who actually seem to prefer it
) and I always have my coffee hot, strong and black.
