Loren,

Did you forget about Rich’s request regarding reporting and posting about abuse? You’ve had two in less than two weeks now…

I do hope for a full and complete recovery for your ex-wife Mr. Hardy. I have been quite astonished at the amount of hard times that people on this message board have been facing. Maybe it is no more than any other group, but maybe whistlers act more like a family. I don’t know.
I visit the kerrywhistles.com site often just to hear the whistles and look at them. One of these days things will look up for my wife and I so that I can get a Tenor D tuneable.
At the site under products / kerry I really like the whistle being played along with a didjeridu. I play the didj, and the whistle seems to go perfectly with it.

Gee David,

Do you really think this is the sort of abuse Rich was referring to? I didn’t think so, but perhaps I am mistaken. Oh well.

You’re mistaken. Making sure that people stick to the rules of the board is not your job. If you find it necessary to spend time policing the use of the board, then we can’t tell you how to spend your spare time, but you are to point out what you think is abuse to Dale or myself, not dress people down publicly.

As always, that goes for everyone else, too.

Rich,

I didn’t tell Phil what he could or could not do, I realize all too well that I don’t have that power. I simply made an observation that he appears to have gone over the limit for commercial posting - consider it a reminder from a concerned citizen; much like one driver to another, when one speeds through a red light and the other offers some words to the effect of, Hey buddy, watch what you’re doing! It’s a far cry from trying to make a citizen’s arrest.

Now, If you want me to keep my opinions to myself, you’ll have to ban me from the message board. Actually, I get the sense you’d enjoy that Rich.

I wouldn’t enjoy that. What I would enjoy is for you to make your observations in a different manner. If you think something requires action from Dale or myself, let us know directly; if you only want to draw to an individual’s attention that they’re doing something that annoys you, or that you’re worried they’re going to get in trouble, your best bet would be to point that out to them directly via email or a private message on the board. (Of course, if what you’re saying isn’t something that you’d feel comfortable pointing out to them privately, then it’s probably inappropriate for public posting, too.)

Up here in the Great White North, it’s “Peace, order, and good government”, not “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”, eh?

Thanks,

    -Rich

Okay,

I see what you’re saying Rich, and to be fair, I’ve had this feedback from Dale in the past. In this particular case I didn’t think it would do any good to contact you, Dale, or Phil, (I won’t go into details of why I feel that way, because you’d likely delete the content), so I made my comment on the situation.

You, in turn, decided to delete my remarks and rebuke me. Fair enough, you’re the board admin, so you have that power. Hopefully I won’t feel the need to comment on this particular issue again and we can both spend our time on other things now.

Loren “Give me liberty or give me a good Philly Cheesteak” B.

Thanks, Loren.

I just wanted to clarify a couple of things:

First, I don’t mean to necessarily approve of Phil’s post – the commercial-posts rule is entirely up to Dale to apply. I’m actually pretty indifferent on that rule, so that wasn’t at issue here.

Second, I don’t want to suggest that board members don’t have any say in what’s allowed and what isn’t. You’re always welcome to discuss the rules, for instance. What I do want is to try to keep it from becoming unpleasant for people that have to read it. In other words, moderation prevents moderation.

Cheers,

    -Rich

I’m afraid you have your work cut out for you then Rich, since “Moderate” is one thing I certainly am not

Besides, I’m apparently not good at being moderate, even when I try. An example is what happend with Brian Lee Dobson a few weeks back…

No, I suspect it’s best if you keep being you and I keep being me. We may clash, but at least we’ll both stay true to our own ethics.
