Have many of you picked up Michael Cooney’s latest album? I had only discovered his A Stone’s Throw this summer (I know, I’m a bit slow on the come-up) and I really enjoy his playing. I thought to myself, “if only he didn’t have all the synthesizer stuff added in…” Not to say it’s a bad recording–I have very much enjoyed it–I just prefer acoustic music. Well I didn’t have to wait too long before I heard about the Just Piping release. 17 straight tracks of concert pitch is hard for my ears in one sitting but I just couldn’t stop listening ![]()
I got it off at CDBaby.com this past spring when Michael mentioned it’s release at the SE Tionol. Fine piping without the high price. ![]()
Michael is one of the teachers featured in the expanded video tutorial section at the Source at NPU (source.pipers.ie)
Michael is the shizznay.
That hutchinson kid ain’t too bad either. But yeah, Cooney is the man.
Thank you for posting this. I’m going to buy it right away!!
Ah - and Michael Cooney will be joining us as a teacher at the Southeast Tionol along with Mick O’Brien and Kara Doyle. Feb 25-27th 2011 in Orlando! Don’t miss it!
“Just Piping” is an excellent album from a man who is a piper’s piper. And he is a great teacher, too!
