i was very cheesed at the tone of the recent post about jim carrol.it seems that there is a clique of small minded troublemakers who are too ready to sound off about matters of which they know s.f.a..jim is a very good maker and is totaly reliable and trustworthy.i play a concert chanter of his design and i love it.by no means is it a banjo blaster it is very sweet,easy to play and a doddle to reed up it also has a bombproof back d.i would recommend jim to any piper as a top maker,his stuff works unlike some others who i will not name.so grow up you moaning mockers and find something useful to do with your time other than slagging others off.yuor posts are known for it.

Certainly agree on this and Jim is not the only one to suffer a slagging off via a misrepresentation and no doubt will not be the last.

My post was directed at the north yorks mythical clogmaker, not jim Carroll, who makes lovely pipes and I have the utmost respect for.
I’d like to chip in a few things.
Jim is a very nice chap and would not deliberately mess anyone about.
He doesn’t make Hunter copies, the chanters are his own design in bore and lattice though I’m sure he’d allow that they were originally based on Peter’s stuff and has had some help from Peter, amongst others.
I’m also going to add my utmost support to Jim’s pipemaking skills, and also to his honesty and integrity. I run workshops and sessions at Shrewsbury Folk Festival and would have been in many a sticky situation if Jim hadn’t been as good as his word. It’s so easy to kick someone when they’re down on a forum, and easy to look a bit foolish when the original person does the honest thing and fesses up the full story! Play nicely now boys!
I’ve wanted to comment for a week or so but have been really busy with the work and new baby. However, today I’m sitting in jury duty with nothing to do, which is actually really nice 
I own a Jim Carroll concert chanter in cococbolo and boxwood (keyless) and love it. Not only is it (I think) a great looking chanter (matching wooden chanter top), but it has stellar tuning and tone. It’s by far the easiest chanter to reed that I’ve ever come across, with it working well with a variety of different staples.
As far as dealing Jim himself, I was in correspondence with Jim many times over the past year and he has always been quick to reply to emails and available to speak by phone. In fact, recently I contacted him to inquire about having all four keys added to the chanter, how much it would be and how long it would take?
To quote Jim, "hi Joseph you may have to wait a short time i have 2 orders in progress ill contact you soon i don’t want to leave you without your chanter for longer than is necessary .

He could have easily had me send the chanter and funds, pocketed the money for the keys, and had me wait and wait. Anyway, I heartily recommend Jim if you want a quality well made pipes with good service.

if you have a problem with one person contact them dont have a go at others because they know them.
the fourum is a great place to gain knowlage from other pipers
