Finally got myself a website have a look now www.banbadesign.co.uk
Congratulations on your new site, looks good. ![]()
Just a small point but I think where you have “Detailed View” it should be a larger size and maybe a different colour. I say this because it gets lost/hard to see against the background.
Otherwise good job and good luck.
Iain
Excuse my ignorance, but It would be good to know who you are. I dont see and biog info on the site. Good luck with the new venture.
Ballygo.
Hi Ballygo,
To answer your question, I am from Northern Ireland way up high in the hills of Tyrone. I have been a piper for a few years now under the expert tutelage of the master piper Noel Devine (responsible for such master pipers as Ciaran Mc Philemy and Chris Mc Mullan). I was working as a Building Engineer/Architect for years and I have recently decided to devote my time to my true passion which is Irish music. I have a strong background in trad music my father taught me the whistle when I was 5 I then progressed to the flute and I wanted to play the pipes when I was 10 but I met Paddy Moloney after a Chieftains concert and he told me to stick to the whistle as the pipes would break my heart (I think my father may have told him to say that due to the high cost of pipes!). As I have said I now live high in the hills of Tyrone (in a house I designed and built myself) with my wife, 10 yr old daughter (who is starting the pipes soon as I fix the bellows on the practice set) and my 14yr old Labrador Jonjoe. I am the Treasurer for the Association of Uilleann Pipers in Derry. I have learned reed making from the Yoda of reed makers Finbar Mc Laughlin in Derry. I will soon start making my own pipes so watch this space.
Iain Beag by the way thanks for the feedback you were right that was hard to see but I think I have it sorted now
All the best and good luck.

Anyone out there had a chance to use chanter reeds from this chap?
If they are any good he’s going to corner the market at those prices
My reeds are currently being played all over the world and my customers are all happy folk. There’s some feedback on the homepage of website. I don’t mean to corner the market it’s just that noone really knows me yet and I don’t feel right asking for the money that others ask for when selling reeds. I normally send my customers four reeds and they pick the best and send the rest back and I don’t stop til I get one to suit a chanter. I think this is the fairest way to work when ‘blind fitting’ a chanter i.e. I don’t have the chanter to hand. If you need any information I am glad to oblige.
I checked out your site and went to order one (worth a whirl at that price) but the message said there is a problem accepting paypal outside Ireland. Will that be fixed soon? Have to confess I was nearly put off by how cheap you’re selling for, it’s a gamble putting such a low price on something if you want to convince folk of a quality product.
Yes I am hoping that it will be sorted soon. I think the problem only happens when ordering from America and Canada. I have had Dutch and German customers ordering with no problems. I honestly don’t think that it is too cheap I think it is a completely fair price for the work involved (with a lot of experience in quantity surveying and tendering for building contracts I know how to price fairly). Try it and I will send you four reeds and you can pick the best. You don’t even have to pay until I get you a reed that works. You can’t get fairer than that surely. Contact me through the site enquiry form or email me.
Cheers
You certainly can’t say fairer than that. Good on you.
Thank you very much. It can’t really be fair any other way. I make reeds from dimensions that are sent to me via email and I never have the chanter in hand when making them. I have four chanters here a Charles Roberts D, a Finbar Mc Laughlin D, and two Rowsome copies in D some are narrow bore and some are wide bore so I normally test them in those chanters and make a series of notes as I tune them. I am totally dedicated to customer satisfaction and so far so good. I will admit that there are some chanters (only one to date and it is notoriously hard to reed and I am confident that when I do have it in the workshop I will get a reed to suit it) that will stump me but it won’t just stump me I would confidently say that if I can’t ‘blind reed’ it noone can. Sorry if that makes me sound too cocky I’m just telling it like it is. I will be getting more feedback posted on the site soon I have just been flat out recently as this is a one man operation and I am responsible for advertising, marketing, operating the site, administration, stock, sourcing timber, producing CAD drawings, dealing with clients, making reeds and making all my other products plus I have a family to tend to as well as all the other duties that count as ‘normal functions’ not that I am complaining about being busy I am all too aware of the lack of work out there (I was a Building Engineer/Architect before the recession). I just hope this busy spell lasts which is why I am so dedicated to satisfying my customers.
Just a quick shout out to Martin for his help with making my first reed. Thanks for your support n supplies. Cheers
Thanks Martin,
recieved an excellent concert pitch reed today here in New York, works perfectly in my Galloway chanter. Also recieved a new Shooting block, this is really nice.It will improve my slips, and save the cutting edge on my gouge! Cheers,Keep up the good work!
