Just a reminder to Tull fans that Ian and the band will be playing at Tanglewood in the Berkshires with the Boston Symphony ( !! ) on Tues. Aug 12. I saw Ian’s solo show “Rubbing Elbows With Ian Anderson” back in Nov. and can happily report that he is as amazing as ever. If you’re a Tull fan, this will be a show NOT to be missed. I’ve always thought of Jethro Tull as one of the more musical rock bands around, and with a healthy dose of Celtic influence. Their music should merge very well with one of the truly great symphony orchestras of the world. There are other concerts on this tour, but this is the only orchestral one ( at least last time I looked at the Tull site)
If anyone on the Board plans to go, let me know and maybe we can meet up-- I’d love to put a face to some of the names I see here every day.
Don’t miss this one!
Aqualung forever!
Proud owner of the “Living With the Past” DVD. ![]()
I like to see the video of “Roots to Branches” where he’s tooting his Olwell.
The video is on the Living In the Past DVD. He uses the Olwell a few times. Very impressive.
He’ll also be in Michigan (I forgot where) on August 28.
They’re playing in Philadelphia this coming Wednesday night, and I, along with two friends from my “livingroom”(as opposed to garage) band will be going to see the show at the Mann.
Funny, in the promos, he says, “Come see me and my heavy-metal flute”! Hope his voice has held the test of time.

Based on a show I saw back in Nov, Ian is still in good voice. This was an acoustic, solo show, so he wasn’t really rocking but he sounded like the old Ian Anderson to me… I can hardly wait.
Anyone going to the Tanglewood show? C’mon Tyg-- it ain’t that far!
He’s going to be in the Houston area in early October ~ if I can only get off work for that!

If you think it will work, I could write you a Doctor’s excuse, saying you have an acutely ingrown toenail…
For the fans here,
some sheet music, ok scarce, ok not the big hits,
but manuscript by IA…
I have that DVD ordered from Amazon - and am eagerly awaiting delivery. They have another DVD for pre-order, due in September, called ‘A New Day Yesterday’. I have no idea what’s on it, but have ordered it, too, anyway. Does anyone have any idea how it differs from ’ Living with the pat’? I can’t see any mention of it on the official website www.j-tull.com
Best wishes,
Steve Power
You’ll LOVE it, Steve!

Just an aside here. When my wife was interested in dating me, and had sent several messages which had gone over my head, she told my father that she thought I was “Thick As a Brick”! ![]()

In early October, I’ll be trekking from western North Carolina to the show in Atlanta, in a broken down blue Geo Prizm (I may be walking).
Then, in November…I get to do it again! ![]()
I saw Jethro Tull last Sunday (8/10) at te Mohegan Sun Casino in CT. They put on a really good show, it was Ian Anderson’s b-day (late 50’s I think). They did all the stadard stuff I’ve heard about; tossing the big balloons out in the audience, acting like he has to sneeze than “farting” notes with his flute (funnier to see than to read about), & generally running around like a mad man. They did a nice mix of classics & newer materiel, all pieces were solid. My favourite number was “Fat Man” which made sparse use of all kinds of instruments & reproduced what was recorded faithfully.
It was all a bit cheesy, but they still can rock & fair play to them for it. All in all I suggest checking them out if they come your way.
ps
After the show I quickly met Andrew Giddings (keyboards) at one of the zillion bars in the casino. I didn’t want to bother him too much, but it was nice to meet him.
Saw them last night with the Boston Symphony, and the show was great. Anderson quipped that with today’s politically correct atmosphere, the song mentioned above should be called “Clynically Obese Person”. Still the same old Ian… I got a good pic or two, and will try to post them sometime next week after a brief vacation
Ian Anderson was born in Scotland in 1947, which makes him 56 - and he’s still running around like a madman!
First time for the balloons eh? I’ve seen Tull so many times that I was one of those crying ‘oh no, not the balloons again’ - before they began printing that slogan ON the balloons!
Welcome to cheesy (not in a million years) Tull!

Saw them Wednesday night at the Mann in Philly. Along with the standard hits, a lot of stuff for true Tull fans. Neil Young was right, “Rock and roll will never die.”!!!
