I have an 8 keyed boxwood flute, Ivory ferrules and pewter plug keys. All I can find out about Mr Blume is on Library of Congress LOC re DCM 0859: Johann Christian Blume / Flute in C and DCM 0933: Johann Christian Blume / Flute in E-flat. This gives dates between 1787 and 1816. I’m guessing this flute is in the latter end of this range. Can anyone shed any more light on J C Blume and his flutes. The flute plays true but quiet. It is a thing of beauty. Unfortunate big crack in the head joint, expertly repaired with boxwood filling by Rob Pierce from Nottinghamshire. I am preparing to sell this and two other flutes, so I am gathering information in advance. I’ll be grateful for any information or advice.
London 1787-1799, established in Braunschweig 1800-1816. Brother of pianoforte maker Heinrich Julius Blume. Only instruments from London are known. Flute, bassoon, flageolet.
Thanks Kevin. Amazing to understand the family link in music craftsmanship.
