IT Jobs in Ireland

This is a question sorta out of left field and not really a “serious” inquiry (meaning I’m not looking for an immediate opening, just inquiring for future reference).
Whilst I was unemployed I started looking at the job situations in other states and in other countries, and looked into several opportunities in Ireland just for schits-and-giggles. I actually received two or three call-backs for jobs in Ireland for various development jobs. One of them was a definite job offer if I could relocate within the month. The companies I spoke to I followed up on via publicly available addresses, etc, to verify them, and the seemed to be legit. A couple of the people I talked to stated that It’s tough getting IT people in Ireland and that IT people are in large demand right now.
What I would like to know is, is this factual or is this made up? i’ve done a few google searches about the job, and found a couple of articles on the Beeb about a tech boom in Ireland, but haven’t really found conclusive evidence to support what I had been told.
Any Irish chiffers work in IT and have the skinny on what the situation is over there? In another year I’ll have my Bachelors in in Computer Science, and if there was an opportunity to work in Ireland for a few years I’d jump at it.

My sister works in IT in Ireland. She has worked both in the North and the South, and probably has a good idea of what the situation is.

Without having asked her, I would say that a skilled person will find opportunities, but probably not the opportunities they would prefer. Much the same as the rest of the world, but Ireland is a smaller pond.

When I was looking at jobs in Ireland that non-Irish/non-EU citizens could actually hold, IT was definitely one of them. Most jobs in Ireland are only for Irish/EU citizens, but there are a few that they do extend to those outside of that realm, and make it easy to find and be hired for them. Nursing had been one of those jobs, but that is no longer the case, since there is a freeze on hiring in the country in general. Because of the economy crashing, IT may also have been one of those areas where there was cutting in terms of foreign employment. The best place to look is on the government pages:

This will get you started…I was looking for the listing of jobs that non Irish or EU nationals can be hired for. If I locate it later, I will definitely pass it on.

The economy problems have hit Ireland pretty hard. I visited the the last week in April and came back May 2nd. The factory that I was visiting that makes Jet Engine parts is talking about reducing work down to three days a week to stay open.
There was lots of talk about home foreclosures, the same problems that there is in the states but it hurts more in a smaller country.
