Sorry to be a board hog today.. I am wondering if any of you know of a cd that has a bunch of Christmas songs with whistle on them.
Me and my daughter were listening while driving last night and she was playing to the tunes. I want to encourage this.
To learn to play melody and solo.
Also any cd with background with out lead inst.?
Thats how I learned to solo on guitar and mando , and I am thinking it would work with whistle too.
Myguitar & mando cd were bluegrass & blues, not exactly what I want for whistle.
Just bought a two CD set at Target (from their Target exclusive X-mas music kiosk) called “Celtic Christmas” (like to meet the marketing genius who came up with that name ). The first CD is a slow, newage group of traditional carols on trad celtic instruments (with the glaring exception of “Amazing Grace” featuring, eck, metal guitar!? Never thought I’d long for bagpipes ) which for the most part actually manages to stay one step above schlock. The first track however features a high whistle on a very nice, might I say gorgeous version of “O holy night”. The whistle even sounds like a “cheapy” (maybe a feadog?) and is very nicely, if simply, played indeed.
The second CD features more upbeat standard carols mixed with, gasp, actual jigs and reels! All and all it’s certainly worth the $10 bucks for two CDs, and is great for when you need a break from that Elvis Christmas album!
