Listening to Clare Fm on the wireless (as they say) just now, I realised I heard no mention here of any of the obvious (semi) trad christmas CDs here: Mary Bergin & Dordan’s ‘Celtic Christmas’ and Frankie Gavin and Carl Hessions ‘Shamrock and Holly’ just to name two. Have they gone unnoticed, haven’t hey been marketed there or what?
A missed opportunity as a stockingfiller I would think.
Shall we start a list?
Semi-trad counts, right?
Bonnie Rideout, A Scottish Christmas
Chieftains, The Bells of Dublin
A Celtic Christmas (Musical Heritage Soc)
Maggie Sansone, Ancient Noels
Barolk Folk, Come Let Us Be Merry
Maddy Prior, A Tapestry of Carols
To continue the list:
Jem Moore/Ariane Lydon: WE THREE STRINGS
Gladly Playe Wyth Stryngs: GLAD TYDINGS
available: CDBaby.com
John McCutcheon: Winter Solstice
Cheers and Happy Listening to All

And don't forget The Boy's of the Lough's "A Midwinter Night's Dream" (which I think may also be available under another title). Pretty close to pure drop, with a lot of good whistle tunes on it.
