Irish music in Oklahoma?

Well, my wife and I will be there, and we plan to come early for the pre-concert festivities. We will probably go to Kilkenny’s too, unless it looks really crowded.

I probably can’t make it. sigh

I do intend on going to the Gaelic Storm concert! It’s November 22nd, Erin…if you can come visit again! I will probably be bringing my mom with me. That’s a bit too special not to include her!

Well, Kim, that looks awesome – I’ll try to make it!

Well, I’m leaving for Oklahoma this afternoon – thanks again, everybody, for all your help and advice!

And BTW, John-N, I must admit to a similar love of cheap whistles. I’ve played trombone for years, and new, they cost at least a couple of thousand. So a $6 price tag is exhilarating!

I won’t make Solas, either, but I’ll try to make the Gaelic Storm show to satisfy my need for Rock ‘n’ Reel. They are also coming to Conway, AR, in September, so I may try to see them there.

I swear that when I saw this topic line I thought it was going to be about Irish music in the Rogers and Hammerstein musical Oklahoma. Those western swing tunes do seem to have been influenced by the Irish polkas, though, don’t you think!

Have fun at all your upcoming events. You guys are all OK by me!

I know, I know. Everybody’s impression of my adopted state comes from Rodgers and Hammerstein or John Steinbeck. Don’t get me started.

When I took Oklahoma history in high school, there was a section of the textbook devoted to the notion that Steinbeck didn’t know what he was talking about. For one thing, Sallisaw isn’t even in the Dustbowl region.

(Sigh) This topic is enhancing my desire to move back to NE Oklahoma as soon as possible. Anybody need a process control engineer? Cheers, N

Steinbeck wrote of the time when people left Oklahoma and Arkansas in droves to find work elsewhere. These days, people are coming HERE to find work!

There’s quite a few concerts coming up at the Tulsa PAC…Gaelic Storm in November,Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill in October, Danu in February of 03, and Dervish in March of 03. Hopefully I can talk my dad into taking me to all of them.

You and I have similar difficulties! You are too young to go by yourself, and I feel like it’s inappropriate for me to go by myself. You have to wait till your dad will take you, I have to wait till by sons get old enough to escort me! LOL It’s a pity you and I aren’t in the same family!

Kim

Kim, what I wouldn’t give to have another whistler in the family  We need to meet up sometime! I’ve told you about our jam in Bartlesville, haven’t I? There’s 3 other whistlers in Tulsa that I know of (John, Jay, Jan…When are you guys gonna’ come? ) and several here in Bartlesville. I don’t think any of the Bartlesville people are on C&F, though. Also, NancyF has made it to the jam while she was up here. We’re not having it for the summer, though (too many people are gone). Email me if you are interested. Hope to see you sometime!

Brent

P.S. Sorry if I’ve already told about the jam before…I have absolutely no memory. Kinda’ like my mom now that I think about it…
