Irish music/dancing in and around Cedar City, Utah?

Hey everyone,

I’m going to be going out to Cedar City, Utah in June and was wondering if anyone knows of any Irish dancing (set dancing or ceili) or sessions around the area (including the greater Vegas area and/or other states nearby!)? My girlfriend is out there for an intership, and I’d love to be able to get her out to some set dancing or a ceili while I’m there! Thanks!

Jeff,

While dancing is not typically of feature of a piper’s tionol (unless you and your girlfriend get up and shake a leg for us!), the Salt Lake Piper’s Club will be hosting its annual tionol the weekend of June 9-11 in Salt Lake City, a couple hours north of Cedar City. For more info, go to http://uilleann.org/Events-Tionols.html. The Saturday workshops are held in conjunction with the Utah Scottish Games in Lehi (the very southern end of the Salt Lake Valley, even closer to Cedar City), and the highland dance competitions are also very fun to watch http://www.utahscots.org/games.html

Our guests will be David Power and Seth Gallagher, and the Sunday evening concert will give you the opportunity of hearing some world class piping. We’ll also be holding a house concert / session on Saturday evening, so drop a pm if you’re going to be in town.

Cheers,
Mark
