Irish Gaellic translation needed please

Sé can mean six, he, it, is or are, depends on the context. Pronounced shay.

Gaelic Storm did something similar with their third album: “Tree” (“trí”). The funny thing is, it was my husband who caught it, not me. We were driving one day listening to the CD, and I wondered aloud why they called it “tree.” He looked at me and said “Er…a haon, a dó, a trí…”

hmm, I thought the Gaelic Storm thing was “tree” because if you ever hear Patrick Murphy say a word that begins with “th” the “h” kinda disappears. so “third” is “tird” and so on. but I spose that could also be related to the Gaelic, since it doesn’t have the “th” sound English does. oh well, I think that was the last halfway decent GS cd anyways…

He also speaks Irish, and is well aware that the Irish word for “three” is “trí” (pronounced “tree”). They were having a great bit of word play.

And yes…the reason that some dialects of Hiberno-English don’t pronounce the voiceless “th” is because that sound doesn’t exist in Irish. The tendency is more marked in Munster, but you’ll hear it just about anywhere.

“rún” literally means “secrect,” but in this context is best translated as “love” or “dear one.”

I was going to touch on this in my original post but didn’t want to confuse peoples.

I always wondered if ‘Rùn’ in the context of ones lover implies a secret or undeclared love? I only bring this up because the syntax in this matter could vary the way the song is performed. Actors would react differently be it a true love, a secret love, or an undeclared love. Music has more soul (IMO) than acting, so wouldn’t this come across in the way the notes are played?

Then there’s the possibilty, too, of “secret” as in “behind closed doors”. But maybe that’s a stretch.
