Introductions

Hi all,

I’ve been lurking on the site for years, and been playing the whistle about 30 years. Thought I should finally say hello, get involved a little. I live on Cape Breton, proudly in the heart of Celtic music country! Love to hear from you.

Slainte,

Well hello—I am a beginner on the whistle, but I have spent several lovely vacations in Nova Scotia. We love Cape Breton Island and last summer we stayed several days in a little place in the Margaree Valley—man, that was heaven! We had so much music to chose from we couldn’t go to everything! The Tourist Office is doing a wonderful job of helping people find out about concerts and little events alike. We also capsized our canoe for the first time in the river. I envy your living there.

Welcome to the forum. I’m sure we are pleased to hear that you’ve been lurking for years and still want to get involved!

Welcome. We too vacationed in Nova Scotia back in the 80s and stayed on Cape Breton Island. As I recall, the best places to stay then were government run or sponsored. I remember one place where we stayed in a rustic looking cabin (one of many) that was ultra modern inside, and had fresh from the river planked salmon in a long lodge on the river bank. Another place had a teepee type dining lodge and units on the bay. Finally, there was a wonderful lodge at the tip of the island, where we hiked and saw many signs of bear and dined and watched through floor to ceiling windows wild lynx roam about the grounds. Just the mention brings back great memories.

I am living in the heart of the old country in Kerry on Irelands western seaboard. I am a newcomer to the whistle 8 months or so. I have been playing piano and boudhrán for some time.

Always nice to meet new people and gain from their experiences.

Welcome! I have always loved the Cape Breton style of fiddle music… and the piano stuff just makes it for me!
