National Museum of Ireland - Collins Barracks. Francis O’Neill’s footsteps in the distance facilitated the sale to Prof O’Leary in 1906.
The Vandeleur set (we usually call it the ‘paperclip’ set)wrecked the Moloney brothers financially, the Vandeleur meant to play them fell off a horse (or so the Vandeleurs said) and the set was not taken. The Moloneys were stuck with it because nobody could afford it. I spent a few afternoons in the Museum storage room in Kildare st during the 80s. The Vandeleur set was sitting in the window, in full sunshine. Had a good time takign it apart and having a good look at it (at that time the man in charge of the instruments left you inside saying ‘OK lads, drop me back the keys once you’re done.’ and also left a pristine signed first edition of O’Neill minstrels and muscians in my posession which he didn’t ask back when we left. I returned it.)
The set is absolutely massive, you could drive a truck down the bass reg. Moloney sets are not the finest of work. The Bflat Moloney Clancy played was owned by Sean Reid. That, or another Moloney set owned by Reid was given by him to Gearoid O Halloran as a wedding present. He still has it, I saw that a few years ago when he left it with Geoff.
Relatives of the former owner up in Freaghcastle still hold a good bit of documentation on the set.

Alright now, everyone who has a set of old pipes made in Ireland need to send them to me so that I can make the trip to repatriate them. 
We could have all of the Taylor sets made in the US brought back as part of a prisoner, er, pipes exchange program…

I think not, the Taylor Bros. were Irish surely? or did they become US citizens before their demise? Did they have green cards back then?
