I love the Indigo Girls.
In particular, their song “Shame On You,” it’s such a wonderful composition.
Are there any other Indigo Girls fans here?

I go down to Chicano city park
'Cause it makes me feel so fine
When the weeds go down you can see up close
In the dead of the winter time
But when the summer comes everything’s in bloom
And you wouldn’t know it’s there
And the white folks like to pretend it’s not
But their music’s in the air
And you can hear 'em singing, la la la, they say shame on you
And you can feel them dancing, la la la, they say shame on you
My friend Tanner she says, “You know me and Jesus
We’re of the same heart
The only thing that keeps us distant
Is that I keep fuсkin’ up”
I said, “Come on down to Chicano city park
And wash your blues away”
The beautiful ladies walk on by
You know I never know what to say
I have a couple Indigo Girls albums and like them. I love their harmonies.
As a mathematician, I’d have to pick “Power of Two” as my favorite Indigo Girls song. ![]()
“Get Out the Map” is also a stellar song.
Have you listened to any of their solo projects?
Count me in.
yeah, sure…
What’s with the whole indigo children thing, anyway? Is it part of some religious cult’s eschatological beliefs?
At one point I would have dyed to see them, now it’s not in my jeans. Woad is me. ![]()
I pick and choose the IG songs I like. I’m not a “everything they do is great”
kind of fan, but I dearly love many of their songs. I think my favorite track
is “Galileo”, which is written as someone pondering about reincarnation and
the sins of past lives visited upon the innocent singer’s present incarnation.
The Girls are an important study for any pop guitarist. They like to do all
kinds of interesting things with one guitar capo’d or tuned differently than
the other, so that they have all kinds of different chord voicings layering
over each other.
Amy Ray also has discovered many other musical acts, such as Sister Hazel.
So that’s cool.
Sadly (for me), Walden’s comment went straight over my head,
but I got this one. ![]()
I would hope so. NC use to be the Indigo capital of the world ![]()

OK, now I get it.
Include me on any list of IG Fans.
They have done some nice Dylan covers alongside Baez and the regular folk festival stars.
Slan,
D.
Me too. We’ve gone to see them several times and they always put on a good show. I particularly like rock-n-roll Indigo Girl. Amy? Emily? I can never remember.
I particularly like rock-n-roll Indigo Girl. Ann? Emily? I can never remember.
What’s the other one? Is she a little bit Country, like Marie Osmond?
What are their solo projects like, Jack, et al? Is one more rock-n-roll-y?
EDIT: From this Wikipedia entry, it seems that Amy might be the
“rock-and-roll Indigo Girl”.
I don’t know. I’ve never listened to any of their solo work. But traditionally, each of them writes about half an album and they produce the whole album together. I like both vocal styles and both songwriting styles about equally.
I’ve always liked them, even though I only bought the one album . . . the first . . . self titled. I remember “Closer to fine” getting radio time, but not any other song from the later albums.
Wasn’t the penny whistle used in the song “Kid Fears”? I thought Michael Stipe added his vocals, as well.
meh…The Indigo Girls were a’ight in their time…now, Tegan and Sara…they are what the Indigo Girls should have been…
I love Tegan and Sara.

Not familiar. I did once have a CD by Disappear Fear,
a band which was obviously influenced by IG.
Scooter boys and Argentineans
Europe shed the blood of the Indian
Here I sit in the land of plenty
Crying about my own virginity
Hey blue blood you’re nothing new
You see I come from privilege too
A chapter in the book on the Americas
You’re just another colonial terrorist
Scooter Boys and Argentineans
Europe shed the blood of the Indian
Here I sit in the land of plenty
Crying about my own virginity
Way down south where the Maya reign
Zapata reading poetry in his grave
They said we’re stealing from the best to feed the poor
Well they need it more
That’s probably my favorite Indigo Girls song. I love it. It sounds so angry live.
