Import taxes to USA from EU?

If I bought a whistle from shannaquay, would I have any import taxes. They said anything like that would be my responsibility, so before I buy, I just want to know–

I’ve never had any problem with that kind of thing, and I’ve ordered lots of things from Ireland over the years.

I’ve bought a number of items from Ireland and Germany on eBay and have never worried about it. I suspect that such taxes as may exist are charged on import shipments and either don’t apply to individual single item sales or else that nobody feels that it’s worth the effort to collect taxes on such tiny shipments.

I bought a whistle from Shannaquay this past summer, and there was no import tax. It’s possible there could be an issue if the purchase exceeds a certain value, or if it’s insured…who was it that had to pay duty on a whistle purchased from someone in Canada not so long ago? It was insured and thus was taxed on the declared value, if I recall correctly.
